The water is insanely high at the cabin this year.   :woot:

Top pic is what the water is usually like on the lake. Bottom pic is this year.

Top and middle pics are the rock shore I pull my main dock section on. Third pic is the rock under the water somewhere.

That’s crazy! How come it’s so high this year compared to others?

My guess is lots of water flowing North from Saskatchewan and Alberta.
My buddy in Northern Sask has really high water too.
Or we could just blame it on COVID-19 like everything else.

Drifter thank you for the photos hope the water level drops some before you find the main part of your dock under water.

My two favorite college football teams are Ohio State and whoever's playing Michigan!!!

What I have now and some smaller panels under the cabin will be temporary until I get my proper system.
That system should have about a dozen panels and the entire setup including generator for topping up the batteries during the low light in the winter will be about $20K. Won't know the exact size of my system until I work with the engineer to design it for my location and load.

Dave
The water levels in all of the Great Lakes are high as well. Quite a few cottages on Lake Michigan have had to be demolished to keep them from falling off of the bluff into the lake. A lot of the properties are too small to allow them to be moved back.

There have been over 20 life's lost to  the lake this year so far. Some got washed off of the piers and some got caught in the under tow taking them out in the lake. So many think it is fun to be in the surf not realizing how dangerous it is.

At least your place is high enough and on rock so it should not be a problem with that happening. All of the  Lake Michigan shore and bluffs are sand. I have seen the lake level go up and down many times over my life time.

Mississippi is higher than "normal" too - hopefully things turn around sometime, but I bet it takes a hard drought unfortunately

That cabin is looking great Dave!

Drifter/Dave,glad you got the solar panel installed now you can also watch TV without having to run a generator. You would not want to miss any of the Maple Leafs games now that the NHL has restarted this may be the year they finally win the Stanely Cup after a long spell of not being the champions.

Only running my low voltage lights off it at this point.
Need to get the rest of the panels up (I have a few 30 used watt panels) and have to upgrade to bigger batteries. Currently I'm running off four 9 ah fish finder gel cells.  ;D

Still using the generator to run the 110 lighting, fridge and TV.

Almost lost the boat today. Big winds and had my stern line/spring line come loose.
Only thing holding it was a worn bow line. Got wet feet getting to the boat as there were some good waves washing over the dock. Got new lines waiting at my door. Seems they came in the day after I was back in town last week.   ::)

Dave glad you saw the problem with the boat mooring lines before wind and waves carried it away from your dock. Thank you for explaining your current electric power system. Have a good night Enjoy the hockey games.

hope the genny was working for you last night dave, how bout dem leafs??!

Genny was running and in case it goes out I have a second one.  ;D

That game was insane. I gave up all hope when they let in the 3rd goal to make it 3-0.
I climbed up on my scaffolding to do some work and was just listening to the last 4 minutes while working away. They score 1 and I'm like meh, they score #2 and I'm, OK, and then they score #3 to tie it up with 23 seconds to go. WOOHOO!!!
Came down to relax during the intermission and figured I better get my butt back up the scaffolding as it worked for the 1st 3 goals. Worked for the game winner too.
Now I'm going to have to climb up there for tomorrow's game.  ::)

Gonna have to watch the game from the nose bleeds!!!!  :roflmao: :roflmao:

Sorry about the Leafs - was rooting for them.  At least you can come down from the scaffolding now.

At least Toronto has a chance to win the “Golden Ticket” at this evening’s draft lottery.  I’m a Sabre’s fan and that’s all I ever get to look forward to. Great thread...I enjoy following all the progress you have made. Amazing!
