Sheltered coves at Deep Creek Lake should be accessible this coming weekend.

Thursday into Friday 30+ mph winds expected.  Hopefully sheltered areas will lock up before the wind comes.

found some fishable ice (clear ice 4" thick) yesterday at Deep Creek and see a few folks on ice at the extreme upper end of Mchenry Cove. Main lake had a combo of skim ice and open water and sheltered areas looked locked from bank to bank but not very thick.  Lake seems ready for a good freeze but it will take another round of frigid temps to lock it up good.  With the current weather will be treacherous trying to get to Deep Creek and the rain will certainly affect any ice currently on the lake.  Stay safe

One other observation - looks like lake is about 5' lower than past years.

DCL 3' lower than normal. 4" black ice on sheltered coves. Next week should be ok on sheltered coves but probably not lake itself.

Should I assume the ice will be fine by the end of January on DC?
Does it involve catching fish?  I'm in!

Should be unless it's a warm winter
