Viking Portable Shanty
« on: Dec 30, 2004, 12:08 AM »
I got a viking 2-3 man portable Shanty for x-mas was wondering if anyone has used or heard of anything good or bad about this unit. Looks good and weighs 40lbs. folds down to the size of a small flat sled. Also has a plastic floor with panels that flip up so you can jig through. Just want to know before I take it on the ice and it breaks or wears out quickly. Thanks for any info

I haven't looked that closely at them but heard the tarp was stapled onto them which is not a good thing.  I know the tarp itself is pretty thin.  I'd think about returning it and ponying up a little extra cash to get a little better quality shack if at all possible.  Eskimos seem okay for the money and I love my Clam.

I have a Viking that I have had four 2 seasons now.  Yes it is stapled and as far as durability it seems ok.  it does not slide well unpacked snow.  tends to plow.  easy to set up, not a bad product but not the best.  I noticed you can buy clams, and other variety  shelters from Gander or Galyan's for less than 200.00.  I would recommend checking them out first.
