Was out on Shell Lake last night and water was down to 46 degrees. Should drop more with the predicted forecast.  Hopefully in a month I'll be on hard water.

I had 20° this morning at my house, and steam was rising off the lake I drive by like crazy this morning. I think we should have early ice this year.

Unless you are on a really small lake or back bay you have until Thanksgiving.

I'm on a 650 acre. I got a report this afternoon that water temps were about 47-48.

With this cold snap coming this weekend, I gotta get my pier out. 25-28 for highs, we're going to be on safe ice by gun/deer for sure. Not sure if I'll be able to launch my boat for Musky on Friday, but I sure as hell am going to try.

Good luck 52! Stay safe out there. It's always a little creepy when the water gets "syrupy" this time of year. Wouldn't last long if you went in.

Just saw the forecast, lows possibly in the single digits this Friday night. I saw some really small ponds iced over already in the early morning.

Might have to dust off a couple tippys for gun season  ;D Been a while since I even thought about that.

Yes this weekend could very well lock up some small bays. Looks like it might not get above 30° for 7 straight day with lows in the teens.

eriksat1- I see you're NW Wisconsin, but just exactly how far north? If the weather forecast comes through, I may have a get my gear out and get ready to drive north soon. Just curious how far north? Rice...Hayward...Ashla nd...?

I'll bet the bays of the chetek and island chain will both have fishable ice (2-3") by gun opener at this rate. If the temps hold true to highs in the low to mid 30s and consistent low 20s at night, a lot of the small lakes north of 64 should be good to go by 2nd weekend of gun hunting. Much of Sawyer county will probably be fishable as well besides the big bodies of water. That's my optimistic outlook lol. One decent snowfall after this stretch of cold could change that pretty quickly though.

Only downfall of NW WI is 90% of the lakes are deep, spring fed lakes or large flowages. Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like the more north central you head the more shallow bodies of water you find that tend to lock up early. I wish Vilas county wasn't such a hike for me.
Da Pack!

If I'm alone, I trail a rope behind the boat. We're fishing 3 guys out of my rig, just going to troll suckers. I love this time of year, windows are shorter, but man the fishing can be good.

Hey! Them's my sucker rigs... Big Thill floats and rubbercores.  Sometimes I run a pilot float with the big one. All on (now) vintage St. Croix S-glass rods.

I don't run big big suckers, so the Thill's work great.

I run 2 8' Premiers, a glass Fig Rig from when they sponsored the IMTT and a couple of Elk River sticks.

I'm between Hayward and Spooner. There are plenty of small lakes up here not just the big lakes.

Looking good still. Forecast is nothing above 30° until Saturday 11-17, and some lows around 10°
I will be deer hunting until after Thanksgivings so when I put the rifle away should be time to grab the auger.

Oh yeah! Bring on that cold weather.

I know last year I was fishing the Chip. Flowage before thanksgiving ( 15th if I can recall 4'')

We are getting some snow now and I really hope the lakes stay open for another 2 days. Ground is starting to freeze and once that happens the lakes are right behind it. 2-6'' expected till the end of the weekend. Heavier amounts in the snow belt.

And 52, I'm glad I dont have you on my dock removal list lol. I like to be done by nov 1st. That water is just too cold to be playing around in when its below freezing  ;D I give ya props for being such a die hard musky guy this time a year. I can ice fish in -20 but have such a hard time sitting in the boat when its 20 above in early/mid november .

Just drove past a 33 acre small lake that I would say was about 80% iced over. It has been snowing lightly for almost 24 hrs now and the snow is making the lake freeze. Forecast says low tonight 10° with almost no wind, it usually gets even colder by me than what the forecast is. That should do it.

Got back last night from Land O Lakes and Palmer (650 acre) will probably be ready to fish by this weekend. Started out on Friday with a frozen shoreline and a soup mix about 100 ft out to frozen solid and 90% of the lake frozen by Sunday. We had plans to launch the boat on Big Lake of the Cisco Chain, it was frozen solid by saturday morning, so we drove over to Park Falls for the Ice thing (it was tiny and sorta sucked), drove back to Boulder to AuquaLand and drank. Fun weekend, but no fishing. Unless they get really warm weather, the season is done on smaller to medium lakes. Trout and Black Oak were open, looks like you could launch on Trout with no problems. We got a total of about 7" of snow up there in the 3 days up, thing is, we also had 40mph winds friday afternoon.

Friday AM.

Saturday

Sunday

Wasn't bad, I was padded head to toe. Took about an hr, two good friends helped with the dry work.  We should have fished friday, but would have never suspected the landings to freeze so solid over night, especially since there was heavy winds. Probably for the best though.
