Thought I was going to fall through when I checked my local lakes here lol.  About 2 inches close to shore, inch or less farther out

you won't catch me out fishing for a couple weeks yet. Just not safe unless you are near the Michigan border.

I'm headed out this weekend in the St. Germain area. If I don't report back by monday, it mean the fishing is really good :)

Checked 2 doz lakes in the Lake Tomahawk/Minocqua/St. Germain area. A lot of open water, some really bad shore ice, and only found one lake that didn't make me nervous. 3 inches was the most ice I saw and that was fading fast. By the afternoon it was getting spongy. Saw some brave souls on Carrol. I hope they got back to shore ok.

Finally looks like lows at night below freezing again. We had 4 inches of ice but all covered with rain water now and melted snow. I'm sure it got a little soft. The snow is all gone so now when all the water on top of the ice freezes it is going to slick as snot out there.

Just got back from checking the ice at lunch, 60 acre lake by my work had 2-1/4 inch solid clear ice. Then I went to the 80 acre lake it only had 1-7/8 inch solid clear ice. I bet we lost almost 2 inches of ice over that last warm spell and rain. Should be good to go again by next Saturday.

That's what I mean that clear ice is as hard as steel. I had to hit it 3 or 4 times with the spud to break through 2-1/4 inches.

That is so true, the little lake by my house didnt have any snow but someone had decided to throug about 100 or so rocks on the ice and they didn't break through and I was going to have to stay out of that area because i didnt want to rune a set of auger blades with a rock.

I went and checked today and on lake the whole channel opened up and all the edges had skim ice but it won't take to long for it to freeze back up.

Just to get the heck out of here at work at noon I am going to run down to that lake down the road and see how much ice we made last night. I measured 2-1/4 inch yesterday at noon.

It grew 3/4 inch in 24 hours. Punched a hole right next to yesterdays and had exactly 3 inches. So then I felt safe and went out about 30 feet off shore punched a hole and had 3-1/4 inch. I think we will have 5 inches on there by Saturday.
There is big Lm bass in there and decent crappie but nothing huge.

Didn't have a spud along, but stopped at the Glen Loch landing and had a look.  From the look of it, a good part of the lake had opened up, and is now refroze.  Looked slicker than snot.  No idea on thickness however.

I checked Glen Loch yesterday and the whole channel opened up went and walk down the point couldn't really tell how thick other then their was no ice on edges.

Wonder if there are going to be a bunch of does shot this weekend because guys need to get out of the house and can't fish so they will do the antlerless hunt.  See Mother Nature truly is a b***h, she might even be further decimating our deer herd  ;D .

It is strange weather. If I wanted to this weekend I could hunt deer (antlerless), or ice fish, or take the boat out and fish on the bigger lakes, the walleye fishing is fantastic this time of year.

Damn this weather, the ice yo yo continues, it has been above freezing now for almost 24 hours and rained again last night. I had 37f this morning and it is 43f right now. I just checked ice again in the same spot we lost a 1/4 inch and I could tell the ice was softer, down to 3 inches again. The lake had water on top of the ice across the whole lake. At least they are saying it is going down to 23f tonight, should harden the ice back up. I'm getting so pissed I might just take the boat out and walleye fish Saturday.
