I have to say I like what works best. I eat pizza, first I wrap it in aluminum foil, then I set it over my lantern to warm it up until I smell it cooking. My other choice would have to be POP TARTS. I can leave some in my fishing box all season. Don't worry about them freezing, then the same thing,set them over some heat and eat!

Moose jerky from the fall's hunt for a snack, then get out the cast-iron pan and fry up some sausage and Ma's perogies that were boiled the night before. Wash it down with a beer. NOTHING BETTER! ...

Except when a buddy brings hot dogs and you forgot your food bag at home!

I only go for 1/2-1 day at a time. So the easier, the better.

Venison sausage/hot sticks, WI Cheese, crackers, and a choice beverage. (My father-by-law would add the sardines or herring.)
A pocket of jerky helps out in between meals.

No cooking, no prep, no cleaning, no extra gear, one-handed eating...........and the old lady's warm supper is that much better after cleaning fish!

I'm thinking about getting a camp oven this year and making some brownies or something. Just a thought they would be so good.

I always have brought deer steak and cooked it on the coleman. I was thinking this year i would just bring a samich or sumpin simple and to cut down on gear but it just won't be the same without having venison and onions fried in butter with lots of black pepper. yah, definitely can't give up that tradition.

I travel light. So, I look for foods that are generally dry and won't freeze. Liquids are kept separate from food.

Mixed nuts, peanuts in shell, jerky, crackers, etc. Maybe a can of sardines, fish paste, or something like that. For liquids, it's a thermos full of tea and a bottle of water (which eventually freezes).

Late afternoon marinated steak tips....

All on potato rolls, and wash down with Samuel Adams Winter Lager.....

And a pint of Yukon Jack

Home made chilli, Cambel's Chunky in just about any flavor (bonus that the can has a peel off top!), and frozen PB sandwiches in between. When it's brutally cold, nothing kills the chill like a hot meal on the ice!

A box of chocolate covered donoughts, peanutbutter and cheese crackers washed down with an ice cold coke. I tried subs but I don't frozen sandwiches or crunchy lettuce and tomato. I put the coke in a hole to keep it from freezing.

Breakfast is usually a sausage egg and cheese sandwich from the store in town, donuts on the ice. There's no limit on Champlain perch, so sometimes we bring a turkey cooker on the ice and just keep it hot. Nothing better than fresh perch and hand cut fries in my opinion. Although jumpsteak is a very close runner-up

Gotta love the good old beef jerky, this year however with the new hardside i think we will be having breakfast which will include bacon and eggs. And don't forget some fresh fillets.

WHATEVER ANYONE ELSE BRINGS!!!....

...Seriously, it depends on the duration of the trip. A couple of hours...snacks and a soda. A half day...snacks and maybe a sandwhich (corned Venison) or two and a few sodas...A full day...bring the Coleman stove we're gonna be cookin' some form of venison (albiet chili, meatballs or homemade sausage) and some good Italian flatbread from my buddies restuarant...YUM..

And by snacks I mean Venison jerky, snack sticks,etc.etc....Oh I forgot to mention....BEEEEER!!!!!!

first choose is allways anything venison! second choose is hillshire farms hot links {the ones with the cheese in em} on a bun with fried onions and peppers, and a splash of tabasco! {not that good for you but its damb good}
