Messalonskee mixed bag

The late winter/ early spring bite was on this morning. Got these guys all before 930 am today. Got the smallie and splake in the same hole with the same bait maybe 5 minutes apart. Had 4 flags today and landed these 3. Missed the last one. Guess he's just getting bigger for another day. Enjoy the ice while it's here everyone!

I've heard the north end in Oakland isn't safe. Belgrade Stream on the south end has made good progress into the lake and the shack that was there has been pulled (probably because it has to be off today) but there is more and more open water daily. I fished in Sidney and there was probably 2 feet of good ice. Maybe an inch of snow on top of a slushy layer which was about 3 inches or so. It was pretty sloppy by the end of the day. My access point in the shore is receding a bit but no planks are needed yet

A great outing it was. It was very likely the last trip of the season and I couldn't have asked for a better ending.

It's definitely some sort of Messalonskee trifecta.  Although I wish this trifecta had a nice brown instead of a smallie. I've fished Messalonskee for 5 years now in search of browns but have yet to hook one. It's gonna happen eventually!
