Anyone been up there recently? Can't seem to find much information about the ice conditions, even through IceShanty. Does it ice over by Christmas time?

Most years the last week of Dec. for freeze up. It's always the last one. Can maybe walk out on the Jenny Gulch end before to long. I made a call yesterday the big lakes were still open water.

It's does have some nice walleyes but it has a goofy slot limit. Almost never catch anything you can keep. Perch and crappies aren't bad. It is one lake that can be brutal when the wind blows, it's wide open. SD is changing the limits around the state but have not seen anything about Belle Fourche/Orman yet.

Pactola is the last lake to freeze up the Black Hills, ice will first form, like mentioned above, on Jenny Gulch. So far the posts I've seen say everything is open. We had five below last night in the southern Black Hills so the weather is starting to cooperate.

As far as Orman(Belle Fourche) goes. There are nice fish in there. You do have to deal with the slot limit. The biggest issue is that there is no winter maintenance to parts of the lake and it can be an absolute nightmare with drifting snow. Once it's frozen up, I pay more attention to the road condition reports than the fishing reports.
