its a pretty good size lake, many diffrent fish, walleye, bass(small, large, rock), perch, crappie, gills, northerns, tigers, easy to fish- many parking spots...its a good place to fish, i enjoy it there, i would say its worth the trip, it has a good 7 inches of ice on it as of 1-2-10

I'm new to Delta Lake too.  I mainly fish Oneida Lake.  I plan on trying Delta Lake out this coming weekend.  The forecast is for cold temps throughout the week so ice conditions should be great!  Maybe I'll see you guys out there.  Pulling a Frabill flip.

Go to the reports and conditions board it gets pretty steady reports. Oh, and to the best of my knowledge there ar no Tigers in Delta.

THANKS !!

no there is tigers in delta, they stocked them last year to try to get rid of the pickerel

I'm curious ..Where did you read or hear that ? It's not listed...
I'd just think the no brainer solution would be to drop the creel/size limit on them and let the anglers take care of them.. I wonder what would make them think Tigers are going to impact them.. Too much other bait in the lake if you ask me...

I know what you guys are talking about.  I drove by Delta the other day on the way to Woods Valley and noticed the soft water.....bummer,........usually one of the first places to find good ice.....I think last year I was on Delta well before Oneida......I know I was on Oneida last year DEC 30th so were way behind last year......Where is the ICE!!!
Title: Re: delta
Post by: Ranger_bound on Dec 26, 2011, 06:31 PM
I was on Delta December 16th last year...I was coming home for winter break and noticed ice so I fished it no bait just jigs and hammered the perch. Go north to find decent ice I have been out three times this season.

Old Forge area. Look at the area on google earth and find the smaller lakes with access. I stopped by 4th lake and it was working hard at the 4th Lake Access/Alger Island the ice was around 2 inches with open water still. I am hoping delta gets going soon I would love to go get some crappie.

I have been working up by the dam.  Yesterday there was some ice today it was all open water.  I will be heading up again tomorrow.  I was talking to the guy that controls the dam and it doesn't look good for ice anytime soon.

I work with the guy that runs the dam.He said back in the summer there wasn't going to be much water in the lake this winter.

I can't imagine them lowering the water past the average of what 4-6 feet? That would put a hurting on the water table.

Post by: icefishinman88 on Dec 29, 2011, 08:01 AM
They can bring it down as much as they want in the fall/winter. They use the excuse of spring run off, which there is a lot of, but the main reason is to maintain the water level in the barge canal. I figure the water level will be about the same as last year. Got cold last night and with the wind we had to may be getting close to locked up

Drove by Delta today. It is pretty locked up. The only open water I saw was up towards the mohawk in the backsets. Looks like a good 2-3" or more. If these cold nights stick around, should be good by this weekend.

Was there tonight checking and it is nowhere near 3". I couldn't make it 5' from shore w/o breaking through. The wind reall hurt the ice making as there is a huge pile of broken ice about 3' from shore. With the cold temps it MIGHT be ready by the weekend...until them I will work and fish the ADK's still.

Thanks Ranger, I saw sled tracks near the backsets, but  it didnt look like they ventured far from shore. Weekend temps look to be in the mid thirties during the day  >:(  I was hoping to be on the ice by monday, but I might just head up to Limekiln next week.

Yes bring the Vex!! Why fish with out lol. Delta holds some decent panfish and perch with some pike and walleyes in a secret spot  I would play it safe for a while and fish the back side (Westernville side) until we get more ice.

Yup I was on Delta...I wasn't going to fish it only check the ice to give a report but to my surprise there was about 6". So I figured why not try it seeing I had my gear in the truck. After I set up I was joined by two other fishermen. I went almost all the way across the lake out by the beach. I fished in 30 fow with 5"-6" of ice and ventured to 50fow with 5" on it. Brought home some slob perch whic are defrosting in the sink.

ya there is usually the channel is thin and there are a few spots where natural springs keep the water movin witch makes for thin ice early on as well as good fishing. but theres plenty of ice now like i said i saw ice houses out as well as wheelers.

Buddy of mine caught 2 small tigers out of delta last summer.  He asked the DEC about it and they said they must have gotten there by mistake, sometimes the fry gets into the wrong tank truck.  sounds like BS to me.
Title: Re: Delta Lake
Post by: deadsmelthead on Jan 18, 2012, 02:09 PM
Last I knew there wasnt a hatchery that they produced Walleye/Tiger Musky together in the same facility at least I dont think they do in constantia, and I believe that the hatchery that stocks Delta, But im not positive... There also isnt any listing of Tiger Musky being stocked in Delta on the DEC website.. Only Walleye stocked 5.2million 1/2 inch fry..

Maybe he is confusing a small Pikerel for a small Tiger or maybe there was some natural cross breading between a Pike and a Pickerel if thats at all possible..
With that said, Ive seen people on many occasions confuse Pickerel/Pike/Musky and Tigers... I have also seen many photos of Northerns with some strange abnormal markings.. Be great if he had some photos to share of them on a recognizable area of Delta...

Plenty of places in Rome but nothing I know of on the lake. Watch your gear if you stay in Rome.

It was slow yesterday but it was caused by user error. We set up right in a perch school and hammered some football sized ones. We walked and left the snowmobiles home an by the time we got to the area we wanted to be in it was taken. Got the sled today.

Welcome aboard !!!  Delta is pretty cut and dry, 10-20 fow for Eyes, Craps and Perch ,, 1-10 fow water for Pickerel and Pike... Of course there are exceptions but that generally what I would target as far as depth although i have hammered crappies in 5 FOW  several occasions on Delta...

delta is really really low just went there today slow day on the ice

Its actually 5-6 foot higher than its been the last 3 years or so...
A lot of us went through this on delta when it was getting dropped lower than normal a few years back, everybody was fishing spots they did when the lake was at the level it is now...  NOW just the oposite is happening , everyone got used to fishing it low and are going to those same spots...  When the water spreads out more so do the fish ....  ;)

:%$#!: Nothing but bad news  :%$#!:  I planned on fishing delta tonight but that went to crap real fast. Bring your waders boys. NO FISH IS WORTH A COLD SWIM.  I got there and before I unloaded everything I wanted to check the ice, good thing for about 6' from shore nothing but water. I got a boot full of cold water and it dawned on me, why am I trying to get out here? :cookoo: I didn't check ice thickness due to the water and a cold foot. I know some people will try and succeed at getting out there but this guy will not. Please if you are that smart to fish there this weekend don't go alone or with machines (for you puddle jumpers).

P.S. I hope the lake locks up around the edges so those permanent shantys can be moved. BE SAFE!

Just about anywhere on the backset.... If your up for it you could probably skip over to the ice from shore some spots was 2-3 foot gap some spots was 6 foot gap...

I just came from driving by Delta, bout a foot of snow ontop now.... I would be VERY carefull of hidden holes that eroded open and are now covered with snow !!!!!!

Walked through the campsites today.....(thats why I went there in the first place, "recon for summer").  Head toward the campsites. The campsite road is blocked off, continue to the right to the ranger station.  Looked like people had been parking down there and then dragging through the campsites down to the ice.  Saw a lot of drag marks through the ice on the campsite roads.

went out this afternoon 2-dusk. fished 17-3 fow. drilled bout 30 holes. marked a few fish of diff sizes but most were prob like the 2 dinks i caught. prob needed a few more lure changes. went out the back set. shoreline was solid plenty of wheelers. ice is butter smooth. just enuff ice left on trail for easy dragging. lake is up, and seems like they re leavin it that way for awhile. nice day anyways wind died down at nite.

@)hi guys,
just got home from the derby on delta. had a few at the legion, and the other spot. well for the most part, everyone had fun.
speaking for the club last year there were 52 entries. this year there were 104, i thank you all.
we are very sorry about the encon tickets that were passed out. all the kids had a great day.
i myself didnot hear of anyone getting hurt, thats great.  some big fish were caught.
in my ride around i saw two real nice pike that will be on the wall. hopefully next year will be as good or better.
be safe, fish hard, be good, god bless, see you soon.             thANK AGAIN,  hooter,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

We went out this morning from the beach.  No fish and took a shanty ride.  Thought I was going to tear the shanty apart if I stayed out there much longer.  They say that even a bad day fishing is better than a good day at many other things, but, some days you just call it good and go hold the couch down or something.

Ice on the lake was good in front of the beach.  Shore ice was o.k. but starting to show some open water.

Went off the beach this AM. Fishing was slow, the ice is 10 to12 inches with 8 inches of clear ice. I would imagine the shoreline is going to get iffy in the next few days. Be careful.

Resurrecting this one....made it out today for what could be the last this year. Working 50 hours a week and warm days has put a damper on my evening fishing. The shore ice is almost non-existent but when you get out there there is still 6-7 inches (where I was fishing). As far as I am concerned there is no chance to get on the backset. Hitting Oneida tomorrow in the canal and maybe taking the boat.

This is for Delta Lake in Oneida County. You want to look at Oneida/Oneida and it appears that there is no fishable ice there yet and the coming snowstorm/wind will probably delay things for a week or so.

If its all locked up last night was around 10 degrees!! This storm coming shouldn't hurt the lake to much !!!'hopefully.  I hope it had the chance to go from open to safe ice in a few days!! It's def possible with temps with high of 13 degrees
Here in westmo it got down to around 5 at about 400 am typically the delta area runs about 5 degrees colder than here... just hope and pray the nor easter misses...

Lets get it started. I am unsure if I was seeing the snow outside of the truck or if it was locked. It looked like there was skim on it. The snow we are getting is going to hinder the ice making though. In ready to give the eyes and crappies a run for their money.

The snow won't hurt delta as its not really frozen yet so it shouldn't affect it much but for the lakes with 2 plus inches its bad for ice making.

2 inches is Probably what delta had when the snow started.. i hope and pray it did have 2 inches cause anything less and the shore is gonna be shot for awhile... looking at 10 inches of snow and its still coming, it appears the worse case scenario is happening

Best place to get on the lake is via the state park...

Looks like we may have lucked out last night, the 2-3 inches predicted never came...

I haven't checked it I'm just arm chair fishing via webcams until the weekend. I follow the shanties ;D. I mainly fish by the yacht club and areas between there and the beach. I don't care too much to catch northern but I have fished the backseat for the illusive crappie.

Looking to fish delta for the first time as soon as she locks up with safe ice. I usually fish in the adks but have heard good things. Any tips for perch on delta? Not asking for anyone's secrets, just info on depth and general location.

Honestly, drill lots of holes. I have chased perch from 7 to 30 FOW. If you have fished it in the summer, go back to the weed beds. Keep in mind that they usually drop the lake level a few feet, so you are gonna have to do a bit more walking to get to deeper waters. I have good luck with emeralds and jigging micro jigs.

Title: Re: Delta Lake
Post by: tundra1 on Dec 28, 2012, 04:58 PM
;D PMAC3 ive caught perch on delta from 4 feet deep to in the 30's just depends on the schools of fish. i prob have had best luck early shallowish though....they like small minnows, jigs with minnow head, perch eye or spikes...around the major point at the end of camp sites is uaually a good choice. easy with a machine, long walk for sure. ...there is parking in the backset area by the maintenance building and main lake beach parking.
Good luck welcome to delta

There's checking the ice and then theres just asking for a swim.  Already reports of drownings in other states, I'd hate to hear about one in NY.

Just because you "have the balls" to venture out onto ice that is unsafe, doesn't mean that you should do it. I would encourage people to at least think about the emergency personnel who are going to need to risk their lives to pull you and your "balls" from the water. And I don't care how big they are, when they hit that cold water they are gonna shrink up anyway. Be safe!

If people want to go out a few feet from shore it's they're decision, 4 feet of water won't kill someone in most cases....I wouldn't recommend it but you know the saying ******** are like opinions everyone has one! Stay safe

it would be one thing if we didn't know the lake but ive been fishing delta since I was 8 years old!  we were fishing in 4 fow and last time I checked we were big boys and could swim.  we were being safe by not going out to deeper water we stayed SHALLOW cuz we didn't want anyone to be in danger.  all in all the three of us have fished delta for a lot of years.  we had a great time and were the first ones to get out this year

4' or 40' most people die from hypothermia and not drowning when they go through. I'm just saying be careful. Went through myself before and it SUCKED. I'm not trying to start an argument, just don't want a repeat of what happened on Canadarago last year. Just be safe

the ice was slushing up when i left i measured about 1.5-2inches of black ice and a couple inches of white ice but it was getting soft be careful with these warmer temps if you venture out!
Title: Re: Delta Lake
Post by: Ranger_bound on Jan 06, 2013, 03:31 PM
Fished the backset for a little while then went to scope the beach out. As previously stated it is not safe...we did spud our way out to 11' and caught some dink perch and one northern. There is a section of ice that got blown around early on and it has only skimmed over with 1/2". I wouldn't go out on Delta with out a spud and picks especially with the warm temps coming.

 >:( over the last 3 days of fishing out there i have seen most everyone wandering around like there is a foot of ice.when actually there is 1.5 to 2 of ice with 3 to 4 frozen slush.....only a few with picks and very few checking the ice with a spud. Ten yds behind the spot i had my shack I could poke my spud right thru with one wack. Slush areas have 1.5 inches of ice. Glad no body got hurt. We will be seeing it all again once the warm spell passes. Please be careful out there , no ice is safe ice!!!!!
well thats my rant about ice safety.... :callcops:

Most likely the shore line ice will be shot, its not gonna get warm enough to ice out, never the less Delta will be a giant glass of chocolate milk for awhile which = really bad fishing...

got out from 10-4. walked across the campground, then off the point at the state launch. had the spud and pfd. 3.5-4.5"of a mix of black and white ice. 2 northerns 24,26' on tip ups. 3 small perch jiggin. we drilled holes all day. fished in 6-15fow. slow fishin, beautiful day. there was ice erosion around some of the holes and .5" of slush on top. even tho there was nt much melting out there, there s not much to give away before it gets dicey(if it is nt already). too thin to walk out the beach, at least for my 230lbs. gettin my $ worth outta that spud.

Cool, sounds like a good place to order from if they do that....I tryed last year without any luck no stock so got a lazer that works good. Just love the offset handles for ease of drilling. I lost a auger like that on stokes cove years ago  :'(

you  mean  kids  might  have  thrown  rocks!!!!!   OMG  when  did   kids  start  threwing  rocks  ??????  well  in  all  my  years  i  never  seen  anything like  this  !  i'm  sure   you  scared  them  and  no  kid  will  ever  throw  a  rock  on  ice  again  and  see  how  far  it   slides!
Trapper who said anything about kids, I'm sure it was an adult they were big rocks bolder sized don't come on here trying to start problems I'm just putting a warning out there for guys fishing so they don't damage their augers!

My point exactly! How about these winds! You could lose a shanty in this weather...anyone to out on any local lakes today must have been a rough day out with these gusts

Hopefully it dies down enough to maybe get on the lake to hopefully not hit any of those 400 rocks and ice fish!!

You guys need to realize there are some people who comment just to get a rise out of someone. Thanks for the warning but there is no need to harp over this...I'm sure the party responsible for throwing the rocks was thinking, "I'll show these stupid icefisherman, lets throw rocks out there and turn it into a mine field for their augers."

park at the state park its the easiest place to get on just make sure you check the ice to be sure your comfortable with it....i saw the reports at gander mountain today and all the local lakes are safe according to their reports, always bring a spud and be safe and check for yourself

Fished all day Saturday.  Ice was good abd the ice machine was runing all day. bite was slow. Perch were very finicky had to really work then to get then to bite. Broke the new nils in drilled 40 holes or so.  Water was cloudy  saw a sled break down in the middle an another sled dragged it all the way back to shore so the ice is machine ready.

Nope, no tigers in delta, someone told me that and i researched it, and the only thing stocked in delta is walleye... Then the person said they must have been mixed at the hatchery accidentally,  so i looked that up and tigers and walleye aren't raised in the same hatchery anywhere in NY.... I think what folks are catching are a Pike/Pickerel hybrid

Sweet video...
And sweet fish, I lost the biggest one i ever had on the other day.. of course there always bigger when you dont land them...
But i had the fish at the hole 6 times and i just couldnt get the gaff on it , its head was just enormous, eyeball the size of a golden dollar, it didn't snap me, the hook just poped out...

Was pulling Tigers out about 4 years ago on open water 8"-9". Heard they were put in to cut down on the pickerel.

Show me pic holding a tiger on delta or a dec issue saying they put them there cause i cant find either...

I would think the amount of hours i put in there would produce one...

Ive caught the ever elusive lake delta brown trout more than once, they get in there through the west branch occasionally..

They would have to put in an astronomical amount of 8-9" tiger stock for them to last to a size that would start eating pickerel. A 8-9" tiger is an excellent snack for a 20" pike or pickerel. DEC tends to use tigers to clean up bodies of water that have too many pan fish. If they wanted to cut down on the pickerel they would ask us fishermen to leave a few more on top of the ice for the birds to pick at.  ;)

Exactly my thoughts, fisherman are the biggest predator to pickerel, and for the most part they seem to be on a slow steady decline.. i have noticed they are starting to get bigger, years past it was nothing to go out and catch 15 pickerel all 18 inches long... They now seem to be running in the 24 inch class and 5 or 6 an outing... They will never be eliminated completely... But if the lake delta faithfull keep doing their part , i bet a pickerel of state record potential comes out...

Shore ice has got to be shot to hell by now, every inch of snow melted here, the creeks are all a mile high looking like yoo hoo, just like to put this out there... This same exact weather pattern is when i went through in the middle of the lake a few years ago on 12 inches of ice...  Old hole eroded out and we had a a good freeze up and some snow... Be care full if heading our in the dark of the AM ive seen 15 foot wide cracks in the ice out there after weather like this, that you cant see until your right ontop of... They generally shoot across the whole lake... with this wind its bound to happen, ice is probably floating and banging against shore...

Drove around her this morning , the ice floated there is about 12-15 feet of big chunks floating around in water along the edge. but the main ice held i'm sure it's a little thinner and the drain holes were opening up last night swhile fishing in the fog. so take caution aproaching any old holes. when she freezes back up.

shoreline is thin in spots, beach is your best bet because it's shallow. whoever has there green shanty in front of the beach ...you might want to check on it it's laying on it's side in the water soon to be solid ice. the water coming out under the dam is brown so that tells ya the lake is a big full bowl of chocolate milk. level is high the ponds at the state park filled back up just to give you an idea of the depth.this was as of last night. She might have froze some overnight but you need to watch out for old washed out holes even when you get on.

Post by: Ranger_bound on Feb 03, 2013, 07:58 AM
Let's not tell people it's good when it la not. I'm out on Deta right now and I can tell you the beach is a poor decision. If you come out here go up the shoreline from the beach, the ice is still a good 1-2 wacks with the spud.  When I got here at 6:30 there was a couple of guys coming off the ice because one fell in trying to get out.

Not where I went to, to the right of the beach(facing the lake) through the woods. More like 50 yards if your itching for a cold swim straight out from the beach. I watched idk how many people just walk right out. You need to spud your way through that stuff to be safe. I seen a group that didn't have a spud, and guess what there was a guy soaked. How did that happen?

I know where your talking ranger, the bedrock shoreline the other side of the tiny spring that trickles through..

Typically when the lake rises there are a a few spots to get on when the ice drifts and that usually is one.. usually the pumphouse is also... really depends on how the wind blows.. couple times i had to park at the dam and sneak around it!!!

Just keep in mind once i got on at the pumphouse at 6 am, was only a 3' gap come 5 pm it was about 15 feet, i had to go golf course rd and call for a ride... lotta walking.....

I had a similar thing happen last year. I went out by the pump house  in March via planking. I didn't venture too far away from there because I could feel something up with the ice. Turns out the ice was adrift and it was taking me away from shore very slowly. When I got back to the plank had to use the submerged rocks to cross. I felt bad for the people that were out in the middle.

I was there just before I posted the water is shallow at the beach it is deeper up the shoreline rather get a wet foot than a wet butt. just helping people get on the ice. after all your out there must be safe someplace.Never said the shore was locked up.

Your guess is as good as mine i caught perch and walleye in 8 fow yesterday, and i was shocked walleyes are generally out in the 15 fow range, but the lake is still pretty dirty, couldnt see my hot orange pimple a foot and half below the hole , so i imagine the fish are pushing into areas that are less dirty and get more sunlight...

You cant access the lake from the boat launch.. Beach or backset are the places to get on... If you plan on fishing the boat launch i can tell you right now there's no walleye or perch there , gonna be pickerel with maybe an occasional pike...

8+ inches of good black ice on the main lake, with another 2" of slush/water ontop of the ice. That was yesterday and im sure the slush/water will be even worse today but there was plenty of good ice. Was out there friday and water was very dirty and was slightly better yesterday. No perch but 4 eyes so not too bad of a day yesterday. Hopefully things will clear up for the derby this weekend.

Wasn't fishing for them :) was after the pike birds of a feather flock together.... Got a few pike nothing huge probably had 20+ flags , the guys near me were hammering the crappie all morning.. I couldn't even sit down and jig. Every time I got to jiging FLAG.... Sunday was slow all morning and right at noon the action started to pick up.. Most of the groups were a flag here and there all morning but right at noon everyone started getting flags of coarse we left around then... I took a few fish home Saturday, caught a few slob pickerel, their stomachs were full of 4-6" perch I couldn't believe they were still eating...

A word of caution. Got on the lake at the beach this morning with no problem. We left around 12:30 and I broke through near the beach in about 3 feet of water walking close to the same path I came in on. Be careful if you're going out or coming back in. Good Luck and stay dry.

Was the white perch have really dull and darker colors? I caught one today that would have been a huge perch if that's what it was. I didn't have time to get a close look at the fish because just as soon as I got it up through the ice the hook came out of its mouth and with one good flip of its tail back in the water it went. I first figured it was a small walleye but as it slide down the while I noticed very distinct stripes of a perch.

Same here 25+ years fishing the lake never caught one...
I've caught Brown Trout, Crappies white/black/hybrids Pickerel, Pike,Walleye, Yellow Perch
Never a white perch, never heard of anyone else catching one either...

Gotta be a misunderstanding or misidentification...

Varies from year to year, this year I'd say it right around 6'-8' looking at the shore can be decieving, it will give you impression that its 10ft plus when its really about half that.. I go by what I generally know an area to be during open water.. Spot we fished today is typically 24 ' during open water, it was about 17' today and spot in the backset that are typically 12-15' are around 6-8' now... so as I said right around 6' maybe 7' I'd say....

Go on this site. It gives you the sea level of the lake at this time and it also predicts the level down the road. I use it a lot in the summer to keep my prop in good shape and I use it for ice fishing. When we had that thaw 2 weeks ago the lake came up 2 feet. I hope this helps.

Catch white perch out of onieda quite regularly. Looked the same as they do there. Didn't take a pic as it was small and I didn't think it was unusual so I didn't get excited.  I've seen stranger things happen.

White perch don't look like yellow perch as they are shaped more like a sun fish or crappie. Have a pic of one I caught out of onieda. Will try to post it

Well something is better than nothing... I've had a couple days this year that were good..Couple days that were bad... Weather has been so up and down its like we can't catch a break...

If you don't mind me asking how deep you picking up the pike... Everyone I've got this year has been in the 5-7' range before it got real cold... Wondering if they are pushed off in the in the in between water like I've seen them do before.. Like almost exclusively cruzing around in 10'... Thanks for any info...

We figured we would try and hunt down some crappies maybe see if the pike were biting but after about 2 hrs of searching we decided it wasn't panning out well.. So we moved out into some perch and waldo territory... 5 minutes after Bigz put his 1st tip up in we had a nice eye on the ice  around 18inches ,  through out the day the fishing remained fairly steady , few nice keeper perch and walleye... Now at this spot I figured I would run some Pike traps maybe see if one was lurking around , I managed to jig up a decent 24 inchers so things were getting optimistic....Well the day flew by and I didn't get a pike on a tip up... But BigZ did !!! On his walleye rig with a FATHEAD !!!! LOL

Hey all, Have wanted to try Delta for eyes or perch as a change from local lakes around Albany. How far a drag are the spots from the parking areas. Not a spring chicken so that could be a deciding factor, but enjoy new places I have never been. General spots to put tipups would be helpful. Only trade would be info for Saratoga and Tomhannock.

Were you guys in the grey shanty kind of behind and to the left of the blue Rover 2.0 shanty? We wear red/grey suits and thought that picture was probably the guys fishing by us. Did that fish come from the multi-drilled hole?

Yah lol... Bigz uses a 6" thing was hooked so deep in the corner of the jaw whenever he tried to turn it, the front of its nose would hit the bottom of the ice .... You truly appreciate an 8" hole after dealing with something like that... Its not that the fish wouldn't fit, cause it would have, just impossible to turn it up the hole!!!!

You guys seemed like you had a decent day every time we turned around you guys had a flag....

Light colored fish are common in Delta when the water is cloudy. Every lake has it's skinny fish. Most of the pike I have pulled out of Delta were fat and healthy.

Ya it would have been a blast to even watch! Also, my information is incorrect. This fish was taken during early season ice. Since the lady showed my girlfriend this morning I guess I assumed it was from this past weekend. But when I noticed grass showing in the picture I questioned her. Sorry for the confusion.

Good luck finding ledges on delta.. Its not that type of lake structurally speaking... Delta has shoals/gravel bars here and there... Some mounds of rocks etc etc... But the only drop offs are that of the shore going into the water... Your best spots for Pike on delta are going to be areas where there are weeds and funnels under the water or pinch points if you will.. And knowing those locations just means you have to get out there and fish.. If your looking to roll the dice just go camp out in front of the beach they cruise through there from time to time..

You talking about the boat launch at the state park ? Or that access point way up on the north end ? If so never seen anyone fishing up that way it at most has gotta be 3-5 foot deep and REALLY weedy... The state park boat launch out in front of the launch channel can be good

you must mean the old A.O.K campground... Not sure what the deal is there, last i knew they weren't open so i couldn't tell you.. Never seen anyone enter the lake through there unless they live over there.. Most everyone I know gets on the lake from the backset or the beach...That area infront of A.O.K that i think you are speaking of definately isnt 20ft deep now that whole are is relatively shallow 10ft or less this time of year..

Bart fished delta sat lots of ice no slush and there was a two seat Polaris UTV out on the ice no problem I was walking pulling a Smitty sled with a heavy propane power auger not a problem. If you have never fished there before take 10 ft off from any map you look at they lower the water levels that much. It kinda threw me off at first.  Deep water is farther out than you think.

Can't really help ya with pike on that lake other than look on the contour maps for the weed beds in 6-12fow. I know some big fish have been pulled out of there this year and idk how many would be left. That lake is kind of small to hold an abundance of lunkers. If you wanna target more than one species you could always go after walleye at sundown. If that's the case, just let the perma shanties tell you where the channel is ;).

Bart if you see tip up on delta more than likely they are walleye fishing everyone I talked to had flat heads on the tip ups looking for eyes or crappies we got a fat 29 incher and a small pickerel. My son lost something really big. Not positive how big but from the run it defiantly had size to it. We were using large pike shiners.

Fished Delta for the first time! 20"-24" of ice about 4" of snow on top, great conditions for the sled and wheelers. Not to bad by foot too. Managed a few Perch. I had one flag and caught my first Pike through the ice!(28-1/2") Had something on the jigging rod, probably pike, fought it for nearly 5 min. Had it to the hole three times, couldn't get a good look at it though the slush? Finally broke off at the hole... :'( Left early, forgot my sun screen! ;D Northern Pike checked off my bucket list!

it's all in the equipment he gets the best, I get what's left. One Time took him on the boat set him up on a good hole he caught fish one after anouther I never put a line in the water. One of my best trips ever and he was hooked for life after that.

Made the hour drive from marcellus. Fished from 7 am till 430pm. Around 930 am had 3 flags in a row go off. Managed 2 pickeral and a 11 1/2 inch perch. Buddy lost something huge at the hole twice shredded his line...toothy critters. Learned my lesson about drilling in someone's previous hole. Drilled and apparently hit someone s crap hole complete with toilet paper and crap flying asi drilled

Fished 5am till 3 pm 3 northerns ranging 26 to little over 30 inches. Had tip ups from 5 feet to 15 feet of water 7 feet seemed to be the hotspot today fished right off beach in front of rock pile. Action was pretty slow so ended up building a 6 foot tall snowman if anyone sees it out there

Northern Pike season closed March 15th and may not be fished for, not even catch and release, outside the open season. The season reopens the 1st Saturday in May.
