Unless you can find a good used set, I don't think you can.  For some reason, they went to the plastic (excuse me, graphite) spools a few years ago.  It's still one of the best tip ups made out there, but I think overall it cheapened up the appearance of the trap...Esox

Pretty strong statement considering that the windlass tip ups need modification or constant attention when the temps are below freezing due to the reels being above the water rather than in the water.

Lakers will perform in all conditions without need of modification.  Any tip up with the reel above the waterline is going to give problems, especially when the temps start hovering around zero or colder.

The windlass tips are cheaply constructed and I can see one of them being dragged through the hole very quickly if you weren't paying complete attention to them, due in part to their small capacity reels, and the small profile they present while set up..a big northern would tear one of them down a hole and not even know he was hooked..thats not gonna happen with the lakers (or any other) wooden tip up for that matter...Esox

I may be in the minority, but I like the plastic reels.
I have some metal reel tip-ups (NorEaster) but I've found that my fingers tend to freeze to the metal (kinda like grabbing a metal ice cube tray).

Anyways, you can order the Heritage traps at a number of places, FISH307, Kittery Trading Post, LL Bean.

esox your tipups have no action and around here you would be outfished 10 to 1 and as for maitence when you can only have 2 lines in the water ones in my hand the outhers a windlass easy maintaining........rou nd here we catch fish without 10 lines in the water   ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ???

Guess the fishing must be different there then..we use 5 tip ups here...and those Lakers perform well with either live shiners (plenty of action there) or with dead smelt..(can't get the live smelt locally here)  When I'm using dead bait, I'll go around every half hour or so if I'm bored and jig the bait for a couple minutes, then walk away and leave them.....works for me....

I'm not saying the windlass are complete junk, but when it's minus 20 F here, I'm not planning on cleaning out the holes every 5 minutes so the line doesn't freeze where it hits the water either.  Esox

10-1 no chance you would have to run full speed from tip up to tip up on most days to keep up. Also the shinners would have to jump on the hook and set the flag for ya.

RIFish
I do not think you can get them with the metal spools
If you are in the Worcester area there is a old timer with a bait shop near UMass hospital and he has them there
If you need address please let me know.
