7-8” hard ice out of Chapman, saw some sleds and quads. Some tiny cracks but no big pressure heaves. She’ll be popping and banging tonight and through the weekend. A lot of the snow has blown off or melted and where it hasn’t it’s pretty hard packed. But lots of open ice areas so wear yer spikes.

Slow but steady pick this afternoon, had fun.

I think we're heading out this way this weekend.  I'm relatively new to ice fishing.  Is there something to keep an eye out for on the ice when temperatures get really cold?

Frostbite.   If you don’t have a shanty and heater I wouldn’t go.  Oneida is brutal with just a little wind.

First the goon burned me bad today , I just couldn’t unlock the combination, to get those little buggers going ,
Walking is pretty easy with  the hard pack
Looks like some good size pressure cracks
 From a distance
 It was chilly but pleasant

fred had mentioned a  new jigging spoon  called  a  iron decoy spoon which i  naturally had  to   order more then i will  ever use , it's  my nature  . anyways  i  thought i would  share  one of  my  favorites  it's the  Thomas  eel  they are not  expensive and  i  have  good  luck  on perch and  walleyes ...gold seems  to work  best for me  most days  but they  come in many  colors.......if you see some  they are well worth a try

made  in the  USA  and   great  for  stream  trout

Probably my most frustrating day ever on Oneida.  I fished from sunup till three and had perch under me the whole time.  No matter what I tried they would not bite.  I must have tied on 20 different jigs.  I managed 4, missed a couple bites and had a slob break my line because my reel was frozen up.  Even a slow bite I would of had good numbers on the number of marks. Oh well, next weekend we shall do the dance again.
