LOTI Bass?
« on: Jan 11, 2023, 07:26 PM »
I'm getting ready for the annual trek up to the thousand islands and to hit up the lake of the isles.  In reading through some of the sportsmans connection books and DEC literature they talk about LOTI being a great spot for bass.  The last few years we have caught plenty of perch, a few bluegills and some northerns.  Never seen a bass swimming around or on the ice.  Anybody have luck catching them through the ice?  If so any suggestions?

Was thinking maybe walking from the launch in towards the the shallows and tryin to hug the weeds on the north side.

As mentioned, you can not legally target bass in the closed season, but if you hook one while targeting other species... so be it.

I haven't fished LOTI, but i hooked (and lost) the biggest bass i have ever seen in my life on the other side of the island on eel bay once while perch fishing out of the kayak in the spring.

Damn lake ontario/st lawrence reg's!  Appreciate you guys writing back.  Good reminder to check the regional reqg's before hitting the ice.

Thanks!

It’s really any body of water thats in Jefferson, St Lawrence, Franklin, and , Hamilton county. Weirdly enough Essex county gets a pass.

But You can be cited a ticket if you post a photo on social media holding a bass out of water when it’s out of season and there’s proof you caught it in an off limits county too. The best bass fishing up there is late May to Early June but can’t fish for them unfortunately

I GET not allowing targeting of bass pre-season during the spawn 100%.

I do NOT understand banning catch and release in winter. I dont see a problem with allowing catch and release through the end of pike and walleye season, and then close it all from march till June.

A bass mouth coming through the ice is a great sight.

Personally I’d like to see it go back to the old laws no fishing for species that are out of season
