This forum used to be great for new fishing buddies and ice reports now it seems like it's a secret why is this? ... we r all out to enjoy fishing y not keep r fisherman safe this yr on the ice?

Need ice to talk about ice fishing............
-
As far as I know the only safe ice is Red Deer north. And that being said I consider safe ice in the 6 inch plus range for walking on.
So. Alberta is a week at least before anything can be considered safe. With the snow cover we have got the last few days that most likely will take even longer. Mid Dec is my best guess for safe ice in the south of the Province.
As to spots to fish, sorry most won't give that info up and for good reason.
SHOTGUN
-
5-6 inches at Chain Lakes (ES1). Snow and slush on top of the ice.
-
Tons of good ice already. Sylvan is around an average of 8 inches or more. Gull hasn't been checked but is likely 10 or more...given it usually has 2-3 inches more than Sylvan. Lakes North of Edmonton seem to be averaging 8-10 inches. That is a great start! Not a lot of snow either so more good ice is forming every day.
-
Long Island lake 6 inches
Wolf lake 4-5 inches
Goldeye lake 5 inches
Abraham lake 0 inches wide open
-
10 inches at Gull at Brownlows.
-
Burnstik yesterday. 5 inches of clear ice under 7-8 inches of snow. Other spots had top water under the snow and very scetchy ice at best. Be a while before any trucks would be wondering out. A few ATV and that was spotty.
As to the fishn. No bites for me partner had one I would guess good size pike on but broke off. Tried several holes at different depths for perch but even those little buggers would not bite. grrr

Pigeon I'm hearing 17-20 inches. People are driving on now. Big drifts though with a crust and soft in the middle. Makes for a lot of stuck vehicles.

Miller’s Lake today. Open water from the aerators all the way to boat launch area. Away from aerators a good 5-6 inches of ice. Three small rainbows in three hours of the afternoon.
