Truck goes through the ice at Fishing Lake SK.
« on: Jan 09, 2024, 12:12 AM »
Hi All,
Just though I would share this Facebook link as a reminder to everyone out there to be cautious when on the ice.

I hear from folks at the lake that some time in the first week of Jan., a truck went through the ice at Fishing Lake SK. :o
Thankfully, no one was hurt. :)

It appears that the truck broke through near a pressure ridge.

Here is a Facebook link to the photos (courtesy of the Foam Lake Fire Department).
The photos are from 3 days ago, and they just posted a video of how they got it out.

Good job to the crew that were able to extract the truck from its predicament, and stay safe themselves.

Remember everyone that no ice is 100 %  safe.
You really have to know the body of water your on and all the hidden dangers to watch out for like current areas, gas pockets, warm water discharges. The most obvious are ice heaves but also watch out for, springs, beaver and muskrat runs, thick reed areas along shore, rocks exposed or close to the ice surface etc...

Wishing you all a fun, and, safe, ice fishing season. :)

Thanks for posting WW. Ice has been all over the map this year with the warm temperatures. This deep freeze should thicken it up.
