Lolo Pond

Anybody been by the public pond in Lolo to check ice?
To jig or not to jig... That is the question.

I agree with madfrog, it doesn't look safe yet as of this morning. Lots of dark spots and looks sketchy. It was 9 degrees this morning when I checked. No snowing too. Just a couple more days of cold and it should be good to go.

Are you talking about the pond next to the river, by poop lagoon?

That'd be the one. Hahaha. Fortunately poop lagoon is down stream.  However I have heard of big "brown" trout being pulled out of the river there. 😆

I've fished this pond many times from a canoe but never in the winter. Is there a public place to park your vehicle that doesn't require you to park by "poop lagoon" and walk up the trail? I've had some epic days of bass fishing in this pond and would love to scope it this winter. Also, has the population of sunnies gotten smaller there?

Is this the small one with the parking area and the steps down to the trail? fished it two weekends ago and it was solid toward the outlet but very slushy where the water comes in. caught a couple and my 4 year old got cold. did some sledding and headed out.

Ice conditions on the public pond? Has anyone fished it yet? I saw several huge pike in that pond last summer when the water was super high wonder if they are still in there.

that pond has not been too productive this past Aug, tiny perch and teenager largies only.  saw one or two granddaddy largie cruising the shoreline but won't take bait (live, dead, artificial, worm, shrimp, grasshopper, jigs).  No sight of pike but I've only been there twice.

Fished the little public pond in Lolo this morning for only an hour.  I'm sure theres fish but my Vexilar didn't pick anything up in about 11 feet of water.  The ice was pretty sketchy and cracking at about 3 inches but I'm sure its growing with this cold weather we're having.
