I always fish at least one plain gold, tru turn hook with a small split shot under a slip bobber  just as the sun is going down.  The crappie can't seem to resist the simple presentation using a tail hooked fat head minnow.

When using five jigging rods/dead sticks, one is always a single hook/split shot.  Variety is the spice of ice life ;D

Love a dead stick set up that way. Split shot and bobber sized so the bobber barely floats and an active minnow can pull it under an inch or two! Works as an early warning system!!  ;)

Ah, if we could use live bait, I could repurpose some split shot but, I'm patient and just wait fer the hook to take it down.       ;)2
Adds a bit of stealth.      :woot:

while that set up does produce I don't use it anymore for bluegills.to many times ive watched the vex screen and observed the fish go and hit the splitshot instead of the bait.lol.i do use a bb splitshot and size 16 or 18 micro treble with a emerald shiner setup for night time crappie still.

When crappies or trout are hanging on the bottom, using a medium sized shot above a frisky minnow is deadly.  The shot keeps the minnow in the target zone and the minnow works that much harder.

Simple is often better...

I use a very small tear drop and a small split shot been having good luck on the crappie that way.  Small split shot just seems to add something to the rate of fall and I get far more bites than on the teardrop alone.
