Just wanted to see how many people from the U.P. are on here and maybe where everyone is from.
I live in Houghton now, going to MTech, originally from down state near Mt. Pleasant though.
-
Originally from Bay City in the lower, left just as they started planting walleye in the Saginaw bay tributaries, go figure. Been in Iron Mountain area since then, 30+ years. Way more lurkers than posters for the UP I believe. Whatcha studying at the mighty Tech, if I may ask.
-
Born and raised in Stephenson never wanna leave the UP!

Environmental Engineering. Particularly interested in surface water, go figure ;D.
And yep, now that I've lived here for a little over a year not sure I'd want to live anywhere else. Might give Minnesota a try though, they have a lot more lakes. Be good for the job and the winter addiction ;)
-
I grew up downstate and am in Marquette now.
Neil.
-
Born and raised in Decatur Mi. Now live in Republic Mi. Hoping to make it to Alaska before I tip over. At 48, Probably just a dream though. Oh well, I love the U.p. don't mind tipping over here. Steve

Check your facts: MICHIGAN HAS MORE LAKES THEN ANY ONE IN THE UNITED STATES PERIOD.

No need to yell, eh. ;D According to da google Alaska is the state with the most lakes.

UP jigstick is right, everything I've found says Alaska has more than 3 million lakes. Also everything I can find says Michigan has a little over 11,000 lakes where as Minnesota has a little of 11,800. Anyhow, doesn't matter either way. More than enough lakes in either case.
-
Just so long as yer not on "MY" lake fishing. ;)
-
Been in the U.P since 68 have a house on the south lake in Curtis.Been in Bozeman Montana for three year now
-
Just so long as yer not on "MY" lake fishing. ;)

Born and raised in Atlanta, GA. job transferred me to OH, 9 years ago and then to Norway, MI. year and a half ago. LOVE IT hear. I disovered ice fishing last winter and fell in love with it. My Georgia Peach thinks I'm crazy though.
-
I've live in the Houghton/Hancock area for the last five or so years. It's my third tour of duty in Keweenaw. Total time living here is something like 14 - 15 years or so.
-
+1 EUP, wished I lived closer to Marquette Though, Choices for lakes are limited. MN has more lakes, and personally I think the fisheries are better over there via the DNR. My plan is to move to MN when I finish my degree next year.

Skinnytrucker;
Antoine is safe now. Alot of people out by the gas company. Seen some nice gills on ice. Ice is really forming up here, but looks like this storm will dump up to 2 feet of snow up here. Not good for ice. You guys are kind of in the Banana belt there so maybe you won't get as much. Good luck and be safe Steve

In Michigan bodies of water have to be a certain size before they are considered a lake. 15 acres I think, but not sure. In Minnesota what we call ponds are considered lakes. Learned this when I worked for the state many years ago. Somebody has my permission to check on this before an ugly war breaks out.

Live and fish in Esky. Born and raised, lived in Hancock for a few years while attending MTU. Grad' in 2005. Perch, trout and whitefish mostly but will hit walleyes without hesitation.
-
Feel sory for the guys with "Green cards". Can never be a real yooper ya know. Best you can upgrade to is green card status. But at leasy you guys are experiencing it. I've been to a lot of places in a lot of states but its pretty hard to leave here for long. Now if we can just straighten out this DNR and fish planting stuff we would be right up there with Minnisota ad Ontario as far as good fishinn lakes for everyone.

Hey I'm from NB also. I've been living in Sault Ste. Marie since 2005.
-
Born in Yipsi, grew up between Hillman and Southgate. I have lived in the UP for 5years now, 4years in Hancock and now in Negaunee. My wife is a yooper from White Pine, and I claim yooper by blood as many family members are from Houghton. Would never willing move back below da bridge, would rather go back to Alaska if that was the case.
-
Hey I'm from NB also. I've been living in Sault Ste. Marie since 2005.
Yeah..don't like crossin' dat bridge anymore, but North Branch is still a pretty area of the state, anything south of Pinconning is a part of the state I can't stand, but the thumb is still nice. Both me and my little brother were born at the same hospital, his birth cert. says Lapeer, mine says north branch...Lapeer General was built on the boundary....
