I have had a hard time finding boots that fit properly cuz I wear a size 15. Four years ago I bought a pair of neos explorer stabilicers, I actually love them easy on easy off feet of never been cold. Sometimes the cleats ice up when conditions you're right also when there's a glare ice be nice to have a little bit more traction. PS you know what they say about us guys with big hands and feet? We wear big shoes and gloves.

Kahunta sounds like the Indian word for "white man walk like old bear".

We're born, we live for a while, and then we die.  Sounds like a good reason to go ice fishing.

not to hijack your OP, but the problem that I have with ice cleats is the build up of snow on the cleats. the one with any kind of chains are the worst. How do you keep that from happening?

LOL and then the ones with snow balling underneath.  Again the chains are the worst.

Whatever the condition is when just right where snowballing sticks.

They were a bear stretching onto size 13 Cabelas. I’d just kept them on. I now have hex-head screws in those boots. I don’t walk inside (much), and it’s not a perfect solution, but I feel safer wearing some kind of traction out on the hardwater.

Nothing wrong with 14s, we don't tip over as easy as others.

2X this comment.  With snow on the ice, yes, snow will build-up as shown above, but you don't need them when there's snow on the ice.  xl katoohlas microspikes fit my size 12 Cabela's very well.

where I go fishing, there are no snowmobile tracks. The only tracks are from foot prints. when you have fresh snow on ice, it's slippery. If it is packed snow, I know that there is no need for them. I have slipped badly on the ice, twisted my back and hit my head. Needed help off the ice. NOW, do you understand why?

Fresh powder on glare ice is the worst case scenario that will spring on you.

In most cases, there's snow, glare ice, slush and none of that is consistent, so cleats are definitely required.

Then there's dragging your sled of gears to the lake.  Yeah without cleats will work fine, but double to quadruple your own effort.  So cleats or maybe snowshoes and each step is solid.  Drag a sled up or down a slope and each step is worth it's effort.
