That's not the one i was using. I tried to put the same one back, but it wouldn't work so i used that one.

what ever account you used to get avatar either expired or mods removed it

We did not remove it. What site were you using for your avatar?

upload from my pictures on my computer. tried to log on a few minutes ago with user name and password I always use, got an error message saying password was wrong, clicked on forgot password, got message, password sent to email, still waiting for reset message. I did find the correct password and signed on but will I still get reset message or not.

still didn't get change password email. another thing, not too long ago you could click on "attachments and other options" and be able to post pics from your computor's picture album, now that option is gone and you have to resort to some other pic storage service, why did this happen?

I got a notification today, don't know what happened but I got one.

Are you using photobucket, tiny pictures, imugr or a different photohosting site? You can't upload directly to iceshanty.

adkRoy, photobucket has some of my pics, and i keep some on my computer.

Ok, here is what you do. Go to photobucket. find the picture you want to use and click on it. You should see next to the picture something that looks like this:
Email & IM http://blah, blah, blah...
Direct http://blah, blah, blah...
HTML <a href=http://blah, blah, blah...
IMG [URL=http://blah, blah, blah...
You want to click on the Direct link (highlighted in blue here) and copy it.
Next go to profile, then hover your mouse over modify profile, go down to forum profile and click on it. Now scroll down a little ways to where it says personalized picture. Click on Specify avatar by URL. Then in the specify by URL box on the right, paste the direct link. Then Scroll all the way down and click on change profile.

no good, right now after following your instructions the default picture of an ice shanty I was using for an avatar is gone and replaced with a small square with a swatch of blue in it and the top right corner peeled back.

I got it now I think. when I clicked on the "specify avatar by url" the box that came up had the http:// already there and I had to delete it and paste my stuff into it.
