i've been kinda thinking about a meetup of some sort for a couple seasons, figured i'd throw the idea out and brainstorm with you folks a bit.
the two big obvious things to figure out would be WHEN and WHERE, the rest can pretty much be up to the individual.
personally i'm partial to early season, somewhere with a population of panfish. but i'm flexible.
may or may not happen this year, but getting people talking about something is usually the best way to make sure it happens

I'm game. My pref: Mon-Sat, over here in the Southeast. Based on my previous efforts, I think on-the-ice is the only option likely to gain traction.
-
Their is a large group of us planning on making the trip to Henry's the first weekend of December with members from multiple states including Idaho, Utah, and Wyoming I believe. You can read the thread over on the Utah page.
-
that's really cool, and anyone interested in that should absolutely go look that up! but personally -for a variety of reasons- i'm not interested in a meetup at henry's, or a meetup that early in the season. :-\

No worries. Let's get started. How about a Saturday. How about a place with trout and panfish.... Crowther? Glendale? Twin Lakes? I know you fish Twin quite a bit. Probably not Weston--it's walk-in only and I have a lame leg this year.
January 20?
-
Ya no worries there I thought I would just throw it out there. If you guys are wanting to do a gathering down in the Preston/Poky area I may be in for that one as well. I try to make a weekend trip to fish that area once a year anyways.
-
January 20th should work for me, i'm good for most saturdays if that doesn't work
so weston's out, i'm gonna nix Johnson and Lamont as well. they seldom freeze up early, and they always seem to have slush on top. Johnson especially.
Glendale or Twin both sound good, i'm certainly partial to twin. i've been pretty successful out there the last few years.
i've never fished Crowthers though, what's it like?
-
Crowther has been a Summer stop for us in years past. I'll never forget they day my lovely wife swamped the canoe setting the hook on a bluegill, dunking her, me, and the dog! Good times. My son used to fish it all the time for bass, bluegill, and trout. It is right on the edge of Malad City--it is an old, 19-acre mill "pond." I mentioned it because it has both trout and panfish--trying to look out for you and me... ::) However, it's not an early ice bet and in mid-January, no guarantees.

I say let's go with Twin. massNtrash needs to get back out here to his true home.
Twin Lakes Jan 20? If you say yes, let's pull the trigger. If nobody else comes we'll post pics and they'll regret.
-
i say let's go for it!
also, feel free to bring any friends/family that want to come. the more the merrier and all that. (plus we can use it as an opportunity to recruit more idaho folks for the site)

Hi guys--I thought I'd chime in. For me, I will be icing it in Minnesota from the 12th with return on the 21st. Otherwise I would love to join in. Let's keep in touch as we get closer and see what we get for fishable ice....On another note I know several years ago I/S folks put together an informal meeting at a Boise restaurant--I didn't go but wished I had. Not sure what kind of turn out there was but I would be up to trying that idea again. Any body else on our West side of Idaho want to try to set up a function?
-
I can probably do 1/27 instead. How about you, PF13?
-
I just realized it's a big State, I need a small plane, go-fund me. :roflmao: :roflmao: ;)2
-
I’d certainly like to fish Twin Lakes Res and fish with some fellow shanty members.. I’ll do my best to make it over!
-
1/27 works for me! i'll change the date on my calendar
-
1/27 would be great! It's a scheduled day off, I'll be there! Be nice to meet you gentlemen.
-
I am interested 1/27 twin lakes right?
-
yep! (the twin lakes near Preston, not the twin lakes in the northern section of the state)
-
I'll see what I can do. I am doubtful I can swing that since we will be in Cascasde the week before that but I'll run it by the boss anyways. All she can say is no right?
-
For those wondering about Crowthers. It is a pretty good lake. I take my two girls there all the time ages 3-5. We catch enough fish that they don't loose interest. If you want to come down this way let me know. Last year we were fishing on it December 14th. This year it will probably be closer to Christmas since it has been so stinking warm. Crowthers is good for kids too, because its not a far walk from the shore to good fishing.....20 feet haha. I have caught a lot of bass and trout out of there. Only 1 bluegill in 3 years and lots of hours fishing. People tell me there are perch in there, but I haven't caught one ice fishing or boat fishing or fishing from land.
-
I am retired so almost anytime is good for me .
-
we may have to reschedule again, the Portneuf AFS ice derby is on january 27th this year, and since i won free entry last year, i'd rather not skip it.
any suggestions for a new date?
-
Not trying to cluster this thread, but as Idahogator said this is a big state.
Any of you Northern Idaho folk's interested in doing a meet up?
-
I am interested. Lots of little lakes up here we could choose from too.
-
We should probably create separate threads. In the meantime, it looks like 1/27 is out for the East Idaho gathering.
How about Feb 3 or 10?
-
Let's do Feb,10. 3rd is a workday.
-
OK Feb 10. As soon as some others chime in to confirm we can start an independent thread.
-
Ok the 10th it is!
-
i can do the 10th as well!
-
OK, looks like we're on.
I started a thread for the Eastern gathering, here:
https://www.iceshanty.com/ice_fishing/index.php?topic=352462.0 (https://www.iceshanty.com/ice_fishing/index.php?topic=352462.0)
I made a top post that we can keep current with the details.
Hope this is OK.

I'd like to see a north Idaho meet. I've run into a few shanty members in past years and it made going out and reporting on fishing more fun.
-
I think there would be a lot of people in the north who would love a get together. Idahogator hit the nail on the head. Its a big state. With a target area somewhere in the middle it could be more then 200 miles. Thats not counting where one would have to go from the lake, to find lodging. Maybe two target areas would work better, one north, one south. Something to think about. Either way, I think someone will miss the shindig, who would like to be there.
