Need Cutbow help
« on: Oct 31, 2012, 09:09 PM »
Would love to make a trip to Colorado to catch a cutbow. We don't have them here in the upper peninsula of michigan. So my questions are. Where do I go? What do I use? and How do I use it?

In my opinion, the best place to go for a nice cutbow is antero res. about 25 minutes outside of Fairplay. My go to setup is a very small (1 inch) pink tube jig or a glow green and pink ratfinkee (both tiled with a meal worm) deadsticked. On my other pole in jigging a gold kastmaster tipped with a meal worm. The smallest kastmaster you can buy at Walmart,

Booppr gave you good advice on Rainbows and Cutbows. Antero is also a very good choice.

Do you have Cutthroat Trout up there? It is a Cutthroat and Rainbow mixed to get the CutBows.

There is nothing like a Cutthroat, one of the prettiest fish you'll find.

BIG cutbows in 11-mile reservoir.  Do a search for 11-mile marina.

Nope no cutthroat up here. We have giant greatlakes browns, steelhead, some outstanding native stream brookies, lakers, and splake (lake trout brookie hybrid).

Does anybody ever use home cured spawn sacs on slammerboards?

I've seen those on TV once and they seemed to work pretty good but I have never seen anyone try it here. Don't you use those on the frozen rivers?

We use them for trout mainly. They work wonders. I use them on lakes and in the marinas along the great lakes where the trout congregate. They set the hook for you on those stubborn trout that carry it a few feet and drop the bait.

My opinion is

Where do I go?   11 Mile

What do I use?   Gold Kasty, brown or olive mini tube

and How do I use it?  Jig Kasty slow to aggressive - on the tubes, try a meal worm added and dead stick or slow jigging motion

A beautiful fish for sure - good luck!

The boys are right, either Antero or Elevenmile. Use wax worms or Powerbait on small ice jigs.
