Navionics App on I - Phone
« on: Jan 11, 2017, 11:47 AM »
I purchased the Navionics App for my I phone last year to use for the lake maps.  Seems like some times it works and other times, it doesn't.  It easily could be operator error.  I was wondering if any others out there successfully use it on a continuous basis.  Thanks

I've been using it for about a year and have had no problems. Kick-ass app for ice fishing in my opinion!!

Thanks for the response.  Looks like my guess was right.  Probably operator error.  Are any of you from the central Iowa area?  If so and you're willing, sometime I would like to meet one of you at a public lake and get educated on how to operate the app correctly.  We might as well test the water for fish while we're there.  In the interim, I will try it again.  Thanks.

I had it on my old Android phone for 4 years and liked it a lot. (when I fished lakes they had maps of)

But I've since gotten a new Galaxy S6 and it was draining my battery in a heartbeat. I uninstalled it and my battery usage is back to normal. Wait for an update and install again?

.  Go into your app settings and turn the gps off when you aren't using it

Use it all the time and wouldn't want to be without it on hard and soft water!  Rarely have any issues..

One quick tip here. If you have poor cell coverage the map will be slow to open or not open at all. One way to solve this before going to a poor cell coverage area is to Download Map of an area, the lake data will be stored in your phone and will be there when you open it. If this is the case use Airplane mode to save your battery. It will use the internal GPS just like a hand held GPS

You can see your downloaded areas by turning on No Overlay they will be highlighted in Yellow Boxes

I like the app but how do I save a waypoint / spot to come back to later.

Tap and hold the screen > tap the question mark ? > tap on Marker > edit the name > choose and icon if want > tap on Add or if its on a spot where you are standing Set On GPS Position. You will then find those Waypoint/Markers  By tapping menu > markers/waypoints.

Make sure to do a Sync My Data and create an account to back up your Markers/Waypoints to the Navionics Cloud in case you loose your phone. All your markers/waypoints will automatically reload to your new phone when you log back into your account on your new phone. This info is private and not shared
