Goal for this winter?
« on: Oct 29, 2008, 10:24 AM »
Any goals for this winter?  I really only have one:  to have a respectable showing in the Ice Shanty online tourny.  I skipped it last year, and of course I get a couple of fish that would have done well, in fact caught a LMB that prob. would have won.  So this year I'll have my card, tape, and camera ready to go.

Goals would include winning at least one True ice event and placing well in the rest of them. I also hope to top last yrs 103 days on the ice.

I will will be mostly working on fine tuning a new drop shot technique and getting better at locating those mid winter crappies and big gills.

How do you get in the tourney and where can I find some info on it?

The iceshanty online tourny usually starts on Jan. 1.   Keep watching the forum for updates and how to register.  Its free and can be pretty fun.

I have several goals this winter:

1.  Ice pickeral and bitter lakes in NE part of state.
2.  Catch a crappie through the ice (never done).
3.  Get my wife out there a little more than the last few years she's been able to.
4.  Ice 81 ponds and Thompson in SE part of state.
5.  Stay on top of ice w/ jones and the dawg.  Oh, and have a cold one w/ the dawg too; we didn't manage to fit that in last season.

My main goal is to get out more than last year, if the gas stays cheap I think it is going to be very possible.

Let it be heard that the The King of Mitchell lake has offered to take me out for crappies!!!  You can likely count on it at some point too!  I plan on getting out as much as I can this year, starting tomorrow afternoon.  I never did get to fish w/ ya when you were at Waubay, I believe two yrs ago?  But, I did at least meet ya (not sure if you remember).  Anyhow, if I want to try out those crappies, at least I know who to look up now!  Thanks for the offer Stumper - it's much appreciated ;)

To find stumper , look for the biggest crowd on lake  mitchell .   He will be in the middle in the white permie.   I might be in a black shack next to him.....lol

Some weekend we should catch a dozen musk rats and put them down a hole in your permie , when theres about a hundred people around you .  We could step outside and watch the fun.  People would be flipping out when a rat swam up into their shack......lol

My goal is the same every winter. To eliminate things that keep me from being on the ice every weekend. Get the chores done, and make sure the lady is happy. Keep the vehicles running, etc. Got to go every week, cuz it's only a 3-4 month season.

Get my girlfriend into ice fishing. Take a few people who have never gone. Drink some beers and have a safe winter.
Tight lines and safe fishing.

Try to improve on last years success. This will be my 4th year on the ice and last year was by far my best. Also ty to get my 3 year old daughter out with me a couple times to see if she will like it or not. Will be a lot easier to get out if I can take one of the kids along. ;)
Wherever you go.......there you are.
