Upper Red Lake

Just wondering if anyone here has been fishing red lake this year.  I have a trip planned for the weekend of the 21 of jan.  was wondering what ice was like and how the bite is?

Just talked to a guy that just got back on the 11th, said they caught all the fish they wanted. Lots of crappie 13" and bigger. Caught alot of walleye and perch too. said the ice was good.

I'll also be there on Jan. 20th-22nd with the crew I work with.  (The co. I work for pays for the trip)  We are staying out of West Winds.

West Winds, should be up around noon or so on Friday.  Staying thru Sun.  Might even "enroll" to become an I.B.O.T  ;D  I'll be with my bud from my old job, Newer blue ext. cab Chevy w/ Eagle graphics all over it-stop by! :tipup:

a buddy has a cabin in washkish.  I do not remember the resort that we go out of just that it is the first one south of the state park I believe.

Just got a call from my Cousin and there is nothing bitting on URL. No crappies 5 small perch and 2 eyes after 24 hrs.

6 guys on the ice for 44 hours
4 crappies
half a bucket of perch
2 northerns
and we didn't even count how many walleyes

about half the fish were caught in the sleeper shacks, and the other half while we were out with portables at least a half mile away from the nearest other fishermen.

we didn't run and gun really hard, but gettin' away from the crowd helped.  Almost all the perch were caught out in the remote spot.
The harder you work at it, the better your chances.

If ya ask me, anytime you can go to a lake and catch a ton of eyes, whether you have to release 'em or not, it's a good trip!!
