Belmont?
« on: Sep 20, 2019, 01:14 AM »
Starting to look forward to the season. Who can say if Belmont lake has undergone the supposed dam work that was scheduled? Had several trips there last season, and think I've learned a thing or two. Would hate to see it unavailable this year.

I've been asking over on the open water version of this site and a few guys I know and as far as I've been told it hasn't been drained yet but I can't say that with absolute certainty.  Also ya never know when the fish commission might decide to do it.

Thanks for the reply, hopefully some substantiated news will become available before season. If I find some I'll share.

I read an update from back in may of 2018 that said construction wouldn't begin until the summer of 2020 at the soonest but 2022 is more likely. This was to include White Oak pond, Miller pond and Lower Woods also. buuuut, we shall see.

well boys looks like the state pulled the plug on Belmont.  I was there yesterday 10/20/19.  Was a bit of a challenge launching the boat but I got her in.  The deepest spot i found was about 9'.  Not sure how this will affect ice fishing.  1/2 the water and all the fish.

Thanks for the update.  It's sad to hear that they drained it already and the worst part is they'll probably screw around for another five or more years before they do anything to fix it just like they did at White Oaks and Miller's Pond.

9' deep. Should be ok to fish on once the mud freezes up and you can get to the ice.

I hope so.  It's a tuff lake to fish but I love to fish there.  And I look forward to bigbuck's ice fishing derby hopefully he still has it.

I wonder if they're going to take the limits off on the lake like they did with White Oaks and Miller's Pond.  Nine feet of water is pretty deep but considering the overall depth of the lake it doesn't seem that deep and I don't know how much area the fish that are left are going to have.

Any guestimate of what the deepest depth is at the current water level?

The water was at the base of the boat ramp.  So if i was standing looking at shore it was down about 6'.

I know what he said however I don't know where the deep and shallow spots are so that doesn't help me picture the water level of the lake.  Him saying it was at the base of the boat ramp give me a better idea of what it looks like at the current water level if that makes sense to you.

Thank God it's not a repeat of White Oaks but sadly they still have a lot of time to screw it up big time.  That heartbreaking seeing that nice buck rotting away.  Thanks for posting the pictures.

just letting people know I'm running a small derby.  it's 100% payout but I'm doing a 50/50 for the Lakewood PA fire dept. Everyone is welcome.  No make up date.

Would this lake also be called orsin pond off of 670 ?  Don’t normally come this far north but I like to icefish and safe ice has become hard to find .  A/P

No Orson pond is right on the corner of 370 and 670 and is private, 3 miles south of there is Belmont.

I will drill some test holes Thursday and post the results.  I dont want people wasting there time diving up and not be comfortable fishing on the lake.

Wow that's a five hour drive.
World's End Bait and Tackle will be there at the lake.  You can text him at 607-349-8283 to order some.

Great day on Belmont and thanks to everyone who participated in the tournament today.  Raised$140 for the local fire department.
