Title: What "grub/worm" best catches what fish??
Post by: HaveAuger on Jan 21, 2008, 10:08 PM
I would like to know what bait  catches what fish. Avalible to me is mostly mealworms. the quality of the bait is not the best. It would probaly be cheaper to buy my own through online bulk ordering. atleast I can take care of them properly. here $3.00 for 24 mostly big with a few minis mixed in.
These are the baits I see Avalible:

Mighty mealys, giant mealworms (are they the same ??)
spikes?
waxies?
Mousies?
Are waxies lively on the hook in the cold water?
I will buy waxies, if  they are better for trout, pan fish. Any info would be helpful TIA 4 replys!

I personally have done better with spikes and waxies.  I have never really had any luck through the ice with mealworms.  My favorite is a colored spike, red and blue are my top two.  I also buy in bulk at the beginning of the season and they last all winter in the fridge.  Pick some up you won't regret it for panfish.

I found this mail order company with glow waxies as well as regular color.
Is that what you were talking about?      http://www.bestbetinc.com/products.html

How many do I put on the jig to increase my catch rate?

Grubs (spikes) and waxies here, too.  The waxies aren't very lively, but they give good action when jigging.
