Saturday trip
« on: Dec 27, 2020, 07:43 AM »
Found water showing on the edges. spud drew water on first jab, not safe in my opinion. This happened at all my trout stops. Maybe could of fished one spot for bass an pickerel, but had trout on my mind.

Glad too see snow weight is off the ice. Cold temps an a little rain should be a good thing for building up inches of strong ice. Any I.S. Folks use this style set up? I use these as my shallow water trout sets. 4lb florice Pline sm circle hook, no weight. I do use hole covers. Only skim hole once. ( no rubber skimmer needed) Lol ! Just wondering about people’s set ups.

Don't use that setup but looks good I usually run my jackers in shallow I'm a firm believer the fish get spooked seeing the spools sticking through the ice in shallow water using jaw jackers has definitely increased my hookup percentage but those will work well too.
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day teach him how to fish and he will sit there and drink all day!!

Are those the Finicky Foolers? There's a guy here in Mass who endorses them. Don't have those myself; I've got the JawJackers and Indian Hill Nor'easters. Both are decent. This winter I want to try a deadstick rod/reel with the baitrunner function and see how that works. It will necessarily be kept close by, since I'll only have an audible signal of a take.

yes they are the finicky fooler, ive used them for sometime. they work great,im a big fan of the original polar tip up. but you are right about fish seeing the spool on early ice. ive run them side by side an the fooler out fished the tip up.
