Going to my Dr. appointment this morning, noted a slight skim of ICE on the northern tip of Pemi Lake...

I do have a serious question for you guys, and I know this is a question that usually results with “it depends”.... my question is - When do you typically see locked up water ready for a sled? I’m assuming this is around the last week of December to the second week on January?

Your in the ballpark with your guess, but it's really different from lake to lake and year to year. Some years early December is no problem, some years half the waters in the state won't be safe for a machine all season. Last year was a pretty tough one for good ice.

You know why I'm laughing, until we start fishing the weekly and sometimes daily ice check requests are are main form of entertainment..yup, I posted that I've got my ticket ..and as long as I'm upright I'm fishing,  no ice check requested.  ;D

Yup, my boat isn't put away yet either! Hoping for one last trip. But I did see some skim ice on the way to the office this morning!

HQ for my job is Eden Prairie MN.  Lots of ice fishing co-workers.  They all fish Mille lacs!
