The lake is in the best shape for this derby than it's been in a number of years. I was out there today, everything frozen, no slush where I was north basin. About 18" total ice, about a foot of black ice, the rest white ice. I heard the south basin has about 14" total ice. Edges are mostly good, few wet spots, but with temps in the mid teens next couple night that should button up as well. Expecting a half ice snow tonight so that should provide snowmobiles with enough lube for their tracks. Perfect for quads, and I fully expect some vehicles out there tomorrow as well. After this weekend with temps forecasted to be in the forties and fifties things should go downhill quickly. Good luck.

Didn't see the finals, but the lake trout I believe was very pedestrian, around 6lbs I think. 1-2lb salmon, perch 1.75lbs. Only 2 fish were entered today, very slow. Top really softened today, edges won't last too much longer.

No problem Bud, I had to put on my reading glasses to make sure that 2 wasn't a 3!

Well it's time to revive this puppy for another Schroon Lake Derby. Lake has buttoned up nicely from the rainy weather we had a couple weeks ago. Been very cold since the rain, 8below this morning. Edges have frozen over enough for vehicles. Today there are 3/4ton trucks out there, and I drove out with my Jeep, no issues. 4-6" snow over 18-24" ice, no slush. Drove out off Fowler and off Hayes Rd. (Narrows access.) You can also access the lake from the boat launch behind Stewarts, only stay to the left of the launch. You WILL break through if you go to the traditional right side. Rogers Brook current has changed the last few years, making that side unsafe, especially for vehicles. I have no personal intel on the south end. The pressure ridge and the open water crack that I pictured in the Schroon Lake Thread a couple weeks ago has solidified for now, but I would NOT drive a vehicle across that area. Good luck!

Any updates? Fishing on the south end was slow yesterday.

Just at Fish & Game, nice Lakers this year, # 1 is 10 or 11lbs, Salmon 5lbs, Pike unusually low, 10lbs, 8lbs and 4 3/4 lbs. Funny thing, I caught a 5lb Pike first thing Sat. morning on a Salmon rig but threw it back thinking no way would this be big enough to be in the money. Well so far I would still be in 3rd place had I kept it. Hopefully something bigger comes in this afternoon, otherwise the busting chops will be merciless!!!!

How is the lake holding up over the heatwave / rain / wind?
