talked to some friends over at SUNY Cobleskill, the vlai only has an inch or two of ice, with some really ugly looking spots.

O'O' WHAT GREAT PANFISHING it is almost with falling in. just love this pond
also has some large pickerel[tip ups and minnies right by the dog leg

oh that place why would anyone be worried about the ice on that pond the fishing stinks so many better places to go :)

I drove by the vlai yesterday and stopped to test the ice. I went on the ice at the dock and the pulloff,got out mabee 10 feet and the ice would start to crack a little bit. So im probrably going to give it at least another week, or at least until i can find a bait shop that actually has bait around here.

you are a braveman to walk on this pond in dec.[lots of springs] i know where
2 are,founded both in 1954 the hardway,had 4in of ice on the pond,but not over the
springs.my dad said- I TOLD YOU TO ALWAYS USE THE SPUD

The pond you boys are refering to is it the 1 on rte 145 near middleburgh

yeah thats the one i never fished it but i do a lot of hunting in that area And lots of trout fishing in the head waters of the Catskill.

its rt,145 in franklinton ,lots of springs,note the has the upper section now[by the old
junk yard and has a new parking lot by the road,i was told that d.e.c. was to put a dam
in at franklinton to bring the water about two more feet????? may be good,may be bad???

that little stretch has always offered a good day of fishing. nice size perch and plenty of pick's to play with. the sizes have gone down over the last 5 years but still a great place to bring a newbie and show them some action. i introduced my cousin to it 2 years ago and that's all he talks about when ice fishing pops upin conversation. i also got my wife hooked on ice fishing on vly so i owe that place a big....THANK YOU. i don't even get any complaints now when i say i'm going out. life is great.
