Had a good time fishing with Tarantula and Crappieman41 on the front bay this morning. 5-6 inches of ice and the gill bite was pretty steady. Had to weed through a lot of little ones. I came home with 10 and they made a good lunch!!! LOL!!

I'm glad to see the gills are still bitting Crappiehunter, NICE CATCH.  I also cooked up some of my gills from last weekend, man they sure are good!

To the back all day. And is there a limit on gills on loomis ? Thanks. For any help !

Yes it usually freezes all over and you can walk back to the back bay from the beach. But right now there is still open water in front of the beach that the geese are keeping open. No limit on gills at Loomis.

::)But out in the middle it does eventually freeze enough to walk straight out and to the back bay
 From the parking lot?

bowbass1, yes it will completely freeze, but unfortunately
like crappiehunter said a few post ago, the geese are
keeping it open. till it freezes, enjoy the great wilderness
of valparaiso while trekking your way to the bay.

I worked my way to the bay with Southsidebob this evening, and we kept 31 nice crappies between the two of us!!! Missed quite a few bites also!!! Fished from 5-9. They were still hitting when we left. C-ya, Crappie Rob.

Got out again this morning but only caught a bunch of little gills in the front bay. It was great getting out though. One guy went home with about 10 keepers. Got to work for them but they are there. Geese stll have some open water open in front of the beach.

That bay gets pounded every year at first ice, and the fish are always there, every year. Last year I didn't catch one keeper crappie out of the entire lake, hundreds of 6"ers, this year they've been 8-10's. In a couple of weeks they'll be harder to find, and hopefully we'll be able to move around the entire lake to try and locate them!! C-ya, Crappie Rob.

We had a pretty bad ice storm here last night and everything was covered in ice. I gave the street guys a chance to clear the way and then I headed to Loomis. It had about a inch of water on top of the ice and then it was frozen on top. Got into a few decent gills. Not big but I'm sure they will taste good.

I tried to fish Loomis Lake the other night, but i couldn't find parking. i came across what appeared to be a boat launch. I noticed a few "No Parking" signs so I moved on. I ended up fishing Long Lake.

I sure would appreciate any help you guy's can offer.

Yes, you just enter the park and there are several places to park near the boat ramp and other places if you drive out toward the beach. Make sure you have ice cleats it's slick out there!! Here's my report from this morning. There were about 6-8 guys out there.

Went out this morning and it was windy and cold!! I brought some shiners and put out some tipups for bass or walleye but no takers. The water and ice on top of the ice has frozen. It's slippery out there so be careful. Supposed to get down into single digits tonight and tomorrow. I'm sure it will be making ice. It was cracking good this morning. Doesn't feel good when it cracks under your bucket!!! LOL!!!

I fished Loomis this afternoon went to my same spot in the front bay. In three hours caught about 30 total, lots of dinks, kept 10.  No fish on tip ups. Windy and cold. The bay ice was 6 inches thick.  Like Crappiehunter said .You need your cleats ,its slick out there. I might hit Long in the morning.    High Flags
