« on: Feb 03, 2014, 08:56 PM »
I so sick of getting stuck when out ice fishing.........I'm crazy for even going down this road with one wheel drive. I just cant help myself, got to get to the hot spot....

Looking for a new truck 4x4..... this one is going to my son, its been running good for 18yrs... now he can get it stuck...LOL

A set of tire chains will get you in and out of places some 4x4's won't go. A lot cheaper than a new truck.

I'm in the same boat mark but I've found some fairly reasonable priced just waiting on tax returns.

I through a set of studs on and weight in the back made a huge difference. With the frozen stuff under the snow though we got a 4x4 stuck trying to break a path open only had a foot of snow but ice underneath it was a no go. Was pretty funny watching a Honda pulling out a Chevy 2500 getting running starts with the tow strap jerking the crap out of it finally got it out. I was amazed that something didn't give on the Honda. In defense of the Chevy though it's low not the typical height of a normal 2500 so I'm sure snow was packing underneath pretty quick too.

I'm in the same boat High Flags.  I've been stuck more then I care to admit this year.  The other day I did the same thing, really wanted to park in a spot that I knew I probably shouldn't pull into.  Well, what do you know... I barely got in there and had to have a friend come pull me out.  Heck I kept getting stuck in the drive the other day.  I keep putting more weight in the back hoping it will help.  I have about 650 lbs in there now, problem Is I think it might be about to much weight on the back end now.  I don't want to lighten up the front.  Anyhow, i'm hoping to stick it out this year and maybe have the 4 wheel drive by next year.  I feel your pain.

Warning-- It's possible to get a 4-wheel drive stuck.   Trust me, I know this.  Hehe

At least right now, ya can blame it on the truck.    ;)

Just remember to look closely at the options available when buying new. Ford has a heated tailgate so your hands don't get cold pushing it home!

Already had my truck 4x4 stuck in snow here in  IN and in snow slush on hardwater  in WI so do not get overly confident with that 4 wheel drive.

I have a 2002 Chevy Blazer 4x4. still have not got it stuck. it has a v-6 so I get good gas mileage. coming home from deer hunting with the wind at my tail, 26.4 mpg. normal highway mileage, 24.0 mpg. you can keep your Fords. LOL !!!

All I can say is they all have the pro's and con's.  I will just tell you that the narrow profile of tire and the longer the wheel base the better.  I have yet to get stuck along with some commen sense 4 wheeling.   At this point have a suburban and love having my shanty fit inside to thaw out once in awhile and can still haul the family, life is good.

I second the narrow tall tire i run a 235/85/16 on a 92 k2500 and with open diffs front and rear it does pretty good even better with a load of firewood in the back. Off the subject but these older chevys including 4x4 s10s that have the thermal linear actuator for the front diff that is prone to failure in cold weather I changed to a cable actuator for front diff and couldnt be happier. worthy fix/upgrade for these older trucks

HIMO to get 20 some miles a gallon, what's pulling that chevy a flatbed?Drop it off a cliff?
Chevy never made a v-6 4x4 that got 20 something mpg.
Wife's was lucky to get 19 mpg driving highway.

Sorry I ain't buying that BS.

well how about putting your money where your mouth is. lets take a trip. if it gets the mileage I am stating, you pay for the gas. if not, I will pay.

Doubt that happens with you being 5 hours to the North.
I'll check back on my Chevy forums and see what other guys are getting with that set-up.

Take it easy.

Good pssn match. I pulled a Jeep Cherokee out yesterday up here in Mi that was buried. Chevy Z71 extender. She was buried. Had to work at it a little, but I'm too old to shovel that much..Mileage?? I can get 20-22 with the 350 if I'm easy on it. 4x4 playing in the snow, maybe 4 or 5..I got stuck in the UP of Mi..REAL stuck..That wasn't fun..

set the cruise at 65- 68 mph and the mileage will be there. also running gas with no ethanol.
