So what are you buying this year?
« on: Sep 15, 2013, 10:49 PM »
I know it's middle of September and you're probably thinking about your deer stand at this point but what are you planning for early December when first ice hits? (note my optimism)  I'm pretty set for rods, augers, and electronics, but there's always new products that come out after ice out that everyone gets excited about.  I haven't seen anything yet, but I'm planning on a new pair of boots and possibly a new ice suit.  My buddy Gary got me turned onto them last season and I'd like to put that on my list.  What are everyone's preference?  I want something that's going to keep me safe, warm and confident during the season and is going to last me a few years.  Also got my eyes set on a pair of Baffin Crossfire boots.  I've just been using my insulated hunting boots the last few years and have been let down by cold toes and broken shoe strings.  Got all my deer stuff situated, time to start thinking about my hard water stuff.

A Frabil straight line 261. Cabala's says they will get their ice fishing gear around 10-19-13. Also its great when you ask a sales person about a new product coming out and they give you the deer in the headlights look.
Keep your stick on the ice we are all in this together.

So far on my want to get list is another jigging rod, a new spud bar, and some marmooskas, Hali-jigs, and forage minnows.  I'm sure as stuff hits the stores the list will grow.

Lol I'd rather have your problem than what I had last year... Too much bait and not enough ice to use it on!

Den58, I bought the propane jiffy as soon as it came out and i love it. First pull of the day takes two pulls then the rest of the day it only takes one pull to fire up! Plus those ripper blades are pretty much unbeatable!!

I saved up for a few years and bought the Jiffy Pro4 last year- I get a lot of satisfaction when I hear someone across the lake pulling and pulling to get their loud gas auger started, only to take twice as long to drill each hole!  By far the best $500 I've ever spent. On anything.

This year I'm buying new rods and reels and improving my arsenal of tackle. And probably an ATV...

I wish I had the ice to justify a powered auger of any kind.  Living in Central Indiana I'm lucky to be able to cut through 4 inches of ice the last few years.  Can't justify spending the money on a powered auger when I may get 3 weeks of good ice.  I think my money may be better spent on a floating suit since we get thin ice at best lately.

I upgraded to a Jiffy Propane at the end of last season.  Went on a late trip to Northern Wisconsin were they had about Two feet of Ice and the thing ran and cut like a dream.  I'm very happy so far.  The one thing to remember is that everyone in your fishing party knows that it has to stand upright or laid on a certain side so the oil doesn't leak out. (wouldn't hurt to bring along spare oil just in case) Never had to worry about that with the old 2-stroke.

Sounds like a great idea! They cost about the same anyway...

A Strikemaster, heater, tons of lures and a camo-suit that I had my eye on.

More jigs (hali-jigs, marmooskas, and forage minnows to name a few) then maybe a new rod and a pop-up.  Oh and another tackle box to put the new jigs in.

only way to go.
I need/want 2 or 3 more reels and maybe a few rods. You just have to buy new jigs every year, no way around it.
