They are quite the fish predators and will even kill fish for fun. You don't want one in a small pond under 5 acres as a pair of them can really do a number on the fish population.  If Ii see one on my trout pond (1/10th acre) it will be the three 's' - shoot, shovel, and shut up. By the time I got the permit to take them out the trout would be gone.

My state is all giddy about reintroducing them. However they are becoming a nusiance.

Cool animals though and don't see any issues in large bodies of water or rivers. I bet they like your planted trout though.

I live in the midwest now but have fond memories of fishing in New England as a kid.
