Ok I just had a few pike fillets and now have a bone stuck in my throat. I tried bread, mashed potatoes, moose steak ,coughing, and water and no go. Anyone got other ideas to help get rid of this tiny little fish bone.
-
Try drinking some dilited vinegar or some coke
-
Fillet more carefully so u dont get bones lol

A pair of tweezers and a headlamp. That's how I removed a bone from my wife's throat while camping on an island up north.
-
I had that when I was a kid 11-12 and it was right in there ended having to go to the hospital and have it removed by the doctor (forceps) was a terrible experience. My mom is a former RN and saw that all the time at the hospital, she said bananas seem to work? Don't chew the banana but bite and swallow small pieces. Good luck that was one of my worst memories as a kid lol! :)

Went to doctor last night. The bone is still down there. Its to far down to reach. Doc said to drink coke or Pepsi to dissolve it. Its the worst feeling ever.
-
That's where the wife's was. If you can get someone to ram some tweezers down your throat, that's the only way to get it out.
-
Duke, you sound like you reamed out a dirty chimney using your technique. Just sayin
-
Any luck getting that bone out yet Timbertomjr?
-
No such luck. Tried everything again yesterday. I go back to work tomorrow for four days. If still there iii go back again to doc and see what the next step is.

When your in the middle of no where and it hurts every time you swallow, you have to go to extreme measures to get it out.

I can appreciate your technique, it just looks funny onscreen is all. Actually as a father of a 2 year old, it really makes me want to concentrate more on fileting my pike thoroughly and not missing any Y bone ends. This is very easy to do.
We all remember sitting down with mom and dad eating fish then brushing our two inch high pile of Y bones into the garbage right? Seems not that long ago.

Well guys I got rid of that bone. I drank 8 cans of Coca-Cola back to back yesterday and with in 3 hours the bone was gone. Thanks for all the help.

Makes you wonder what that stuff does to the system?
-
Glad you got the bone out and informed us on what to do in case it ever happens to us or someone we know.
-
another reason I don't eat fish...lol
-
be vary careful my uncle had had one stuck in his throat it punctured a hole in his esophagus and bits of food got through this hole and basically his whole chest cavity got infected and they had to surgically go in and scrub everyone of his internal organs a surgery that only 9% of people survive. so if you think your having a heart attack be dont blow it off

You can clean your toilet with Coke.
-
Talk about a horror story. Glad everything worked out.

Pike should always be consumed with rum-n-cokes as a chaser to avoid your problem.
-
And this is exactly why every pike that I catch is returned to mother nature, you can never trust all those dam bones have been removed.
-
i simply debone all my fillets and then i dont have to throw them back...i guess mother nature likes is a good provider.......mmm vit D and omega 3s
-
Marinate the pike fillets in Coke before you cook them!!! ;D

Try eating cornbread with every fish dinner....... Old Portuguese trick.
-
Rum&cokes, hot buttered cornbread, and fried pike. Sounds like a scrumptious combo! I have the ingredients for the first two and maybe it'll warm up enough today to go and get the third.

Do Pike from LML taste any good? I love Deschambeault pike but in the summer, the pike stink terrible just taking them off the hook. I'm a northern boy and YES there is a difference in taste in Shield Lakes compared to soft bottom lakes. IE LML
Do Burbot taste better in the winter at LML? Summer is gross i've found.
Winter perch and walleye are good I thought.

everything's better in the north ;D but i think the bottom line is all fish tastes best coming through the ice, especially pike. do you bleed the fish you keep?
