Power Box and Lights recommendations
« on: Feb 03, 2023, 09:45 AM »
I have a Eskimo Wide 1 Inferno and am looking to add a power box and lights. My main question is what size battery would be sufficient to run a couple light bars, a fan and a glo ring.

I would rather be safe and have too much power but don't want to go completely overboard. Mainly I fishing a few hours into the night for walleye in my one man but also would like to get into overnight stays on the ice out of my hub in the future.

Specific recommendations on power boxes and lights would be appreciated and any other suggestions on things I may be leaving out.

Space is tight in a one man ..adding a power box with a glo ring and for lighting ...things could get in the way as the glo ring would have to be in front of you ...limiting you ingress/egress

One of the USB/LED light is all the lighting you will need ..a 5 foot strip should work ...but the 10 foot will give you more lighting ...add a power bank or if you are in a battery platform grab a power source with a USB out .

As far as a  glo ring adding a Vexilar Glow Ring to your fish finder or just get a UV flashlight style .

I have this light ...works well I also have the Vexilar Glo Ring ..the flashlight gets the most use as I am always adjusting the knot on my jigs and/or rebaiting.

You should be able to get by with a 7-9 amph battery up to a 18 amph.  You can decide to go with a SLA or Lithium battery for this.  The larger you go in capacity, the longer you can go between charges.  I run a 9 amph battery on my flasher, use it all weekend and really haven't one under 50% charge, so you should be good.

Your lights can be LED strips which are pretty easy to wire up.  Most have an adhesive backing and you can also use zip ties to keep the strips attached to your poles.

You can decide to go bigger in battery size if you want to run more devices off the battery, but that's up to you.

If you are looking at power box options - check out Ice Hole Power - you can either purchase the unit made up, or they send you the parts and you assemble depending on your skill level - its really not hard to do.  Also, lots of videos on YouTube (JDS Outdoors is a good option to review).

...or if you are in a battery platform grab a power source with a USB out .

I think those are great. I hate buying new batteries when I already have a bunch of tool batteries.
I think one of these (for the brand of tool batteries you may already have) might work well for you.
It has a light, USB ports, and a DIY cable/plug that you could wire whatever to.

I got the Clam flex lights. I thought they'd be cool because they change color and was told they might bring in bait fish. however, the white light messes with my eyes especially if i'm a little tired and it's hard to see to tie on lures because the line is hard to see.
