If we can just keep any rain away for a while we might limp along. It is still 35 here in Constantia, must be a pretty good temp drop coming if it is going down to 5 tonight…

If we can keep fishable ice in the short term and if you believe this Accuweather forecast for March highs/lows we should be ice fishing till end of March.
Note that’s a lots of “ifs” (if your aunt had nuts…)

Well guys, you’re probably right.
Wind is howling hard in Lakeport right now and will only increase throughout the day tomorrow.
It will be a miracle if the little ice we had mid-lake will survive this.
So much for being optimistic….
I told you I jinxed us all when I registered my snowmobile.

"Accu" weather has been terrible at predicting anything beyond about 10 days this winter. After that they seem to settle in on the average highs and lows. Look at their monthly prediction for the second half of February. It is all low 30s for highs and teens at night. I doubt that will happen but it would be nice.

I pay more attention to the NOAA 8-14 Day outlook. The NOAA seasonal outlook shows warmer than average temps litterally until November.

Black ice and sun with temps in the 40's make it ugly fast.
Someplace will have thick shelf ice once this wind dies and things lock up.

Dagum fellas y’all believe a lot of what they’re telling you then. I don’t believe any thing past4/5 days and AccuWeather has been very good for that term. I’m still hopeful but not gonna hold my breath.

My area broke up a little from the wind. The shoreline and then one big nasty crack running 1-200 yards out. Tough to tell if parts are open or if it’s just water coming thru the crack. As usual. Conditions are going to be different in different parts of the lake.

I think the access is still there. Haven’t had the ice conditions to see anyone out of there yet so not 100% sure.

Someone's shanty was in view from the  Chapman Park camera for an hour this morning.  Wonder if they got off the ice due to the weather, or just went to another spot.

A few locals out last nite east of Lewis, ice looked pretty sketchy . 40 mph winds as the front went thru last nite but the ice looked pretty locked. Use caution around the many cracks ice may be very thin.

I hope nobody is out today.  Out on my 9 mile walk today and that wind is brutal.  No pop up shanty will block this out

went down lakeshoe rd. on the south side. the center of the lake is wide open and rolling from the islands east as far as i could see. got to williams park and couldn't believe my eyes !!! there's about 10 shantys out there not far from the open water ??? ??? if those shacks come loose they wil go into open water with the 40 plus mph wind out there. hope they make it back to shore ok. I haven't stepped foot on it this year. hasn't stayed cold enough for me, and the days are getting longer.   Sully

Nope, that’s no way to go.  Other ice to fish around here or sit one out and wait a day.
