I picked up a free yamaha vmax 500.it will be the next build but i got it running and been riding it.when it blows up it will be my next track sled.cool thing is it has reverse in the gearbox that i can use.

Thats what mine WAS, but after a really good look over and finding the frame cracked and pricing everything out to fix, $800 and track sled it became. I don't regret the decision one bit.

weird.mine also had a cracked frame under the clutch and secondary that i welded up.then i put a steel patch across it and welded.my first track sled is a 1990 arctic cat cougar 440.that think would not run right and not reliable.no regrets on turning that into a tracksled.

Watch a utube channel Tayrl Fixes All he built one out of a track driven snowblower. He changed the gears i think to go faster and added weight to the front.

Thanks everyone for all the info.  Not sure what I might be doing yet as there are many options. I'm really intrigued by the track equipped snow blower idea but have to wonder about deep snow and clearance ? It would seem as a real simple plan if it would work.

The ones I've seen in use, the guys walk along side of them and let the machine pull the load. They stay on the packed down trails. The 2 guys a talked to a long time ago said that 1 or 2 inches of fresh snow was ok but more than that it did not work well.
