Willoughby Lodging? (or other NEK lake)
« on: Feb 19, 2018, 09:18 PM »
My girlfriend and I are thinking we'd like to head up to Willoughby to fish and relax for a couple days.  From what she gathered, the cabin rentals shut down during the winter.  Does anyone know a good place to stay for a night or two, preferably right near the lake?

Or maybe we should think of a different lake.  Any other ideas on where to stay on an NEK lake?

Preferably one with smelt and trout and burbot!

there is the Willovale inn in westmore. its on the other side of rt5 from the lake, but i believe the still offer rooms in the winter.

My girlfriend and I spent our "honey moon" ice fishing hopping from one NEK lake to another and stayed near each one.  The Willowvale is very nice and the dinner was delicious.  While at Magog we stayed in a motel between Newport and Derby (forgot the name) and when we went to Island Pond we stayed in a nice old bed and breakfast, no dinner but we ate in the village diner and it was good.  The next day we stayed at a motel on the water there, nothing spectacular, and just drove out of their parking lot onto the water.

If you're looking for smelt and trout, then Magog is the place; there's an access on the east side at the northern end.  Don't drive to the south too soon, it's soft in those weeds.

Lots of pike in Norton and there's a motel in Canaan.

For brown trout, try Peacham.  Maybe you can find a B&B nearby in Peacham.

It's good fishing at Joe's Pond, too, give that a try.  Good luck!

X2 on Willovale. Heck you can run tip-ups and see them from the living rooms.

Ah yes, Willovale!  I thought I'd heard something like that.  Thanks!
Well, now I'm conflicted:  A friend has offered us the use of her place on Seymour.  I'd sure like to fish Willoughby, though.   Well I guess that's a good problem to have.
