Some new ice rods are on my list this year. Check these out, let me know your opinions. Especially those of you that might own one. These might be an alternative to a St Croix and other higher end rods.

Be afraid. Be very afraid. If she approved a 4 wheeler AND a camera without a fight, she is either going to commindeer them when your not looking or has plans for her own purchase. WATCH YOUR CREDIT CARDS.

I had a momentary lapse of reason and let her quit her job to stay home full time with the kids (even though they are in school full time now - I may have to rethink this after I make my purchases) so I guess she is repaying me the favor. Funny how it works when all the cash comes from my pocket. Either way - I dare not comment.

I just found out that my vexilar ice transducer is broken. I am going to order another one but was not sure what to order. I have a 19 degree now. I mainly fish 30ft. or less. It been working well. I have heard about a suppressor cable that reduces the signal that is sent out. It is suppose to supress signal around 50 percent. If so could i buy a 9 degree transducer and use the suppressor cable. My theory is buy reducing the power by 1/2 it would make my degree wider. Does anybody know what I mean and can they help me.                                                        TUSH

Im sure it doesnt work that way   mostly to just cut power to the ducer ( see Im learning)   for shallow water the transducer degree angle doesnt change    I bought the fl12 with a 12 degree  then ebayed a 19 degree   transom mount can use the 19 for shallow water :)  wider cone

Nope power doesn't affect the cone angle.....only reduces the number of watts being pumped thru.  Dropping the power clears up a lot of the clutter if you're fishing in brush or heavy weeds, and eliminates double echoes when fishing shallow.

If you've got the extra cash, I'd recommend the dual-beam transducer.  the 19 degree setting gives GREAT bottom coverage when fishing shallow.
