Tip up or Slammer for Deep Lakers
« on: Dec 31, 2004, 12:59 PM »
I am looking for lake experience on these two rigs, and also include how you are rigging them please.  I would love the speed of using the slammers for quick set up and moving from spot to spot if they work.  I will be fishing in Canada for lakers that usually hit hard. Thanks in advance.

tnord, been using my slammer for three seasons now...It`s become part of my arsonal. From shallow `bows to deep lakers. The trick for me was the correct rod length (5' ugly-stick) ultra lite. And getting it set ie paper clip, key ring ect. Set the drag med lite so it wont brake on the initial release, but heavy enough to set the hook...Alot like a down rigger.Hope it helps .flag`s up!!!

i built a slammer this year as a little day off project for my son and I !! I love this thing it has certainly replaced on of my tipups in my regular ice fishing gear.  i agree that rod length is everything i have a 4'-6'' light action on mine and it is fun!!i also fornd these very fat little hooks that barely poke into the eye of the rod and it has made this slammer very sensitive. i am hoping to try it on lakers soon.  14'' pickerel is the smallest ive caught so it is sensitive.

Can any of you show me a pic or a link to a pic of a slammer?

Tyler
Politically incorrect, and proud of it.

there are pics of the slammer(home made)on the invention/equipment board.they are very good close up pics.Or you can do a search on the net for one to look at pics that are not quite as good.the trigger is nothing more that a eye screwed  into the wood with a split key ring on it.the key ring is the part that slings over your eye in your rod.there are some variations of this "slammer" called "whip ups".hope this helps
