Moon Phase effecting night bite
« on: Dec 31, 2004, 01:18 PM »
does anyone have an opinion on how the moon effects night fishing for crappie in both clear water and murky water

Bussman and I were out wednesday night couldnt get out untill 7:30 and fished till 11:30 or so
so  the moon was already up and  the crappie were not biting in both waters that we tried we ended up with only a handful of smaller crappie  this was the 3rd or 4th day after the full moon and i think the moon had a big impact on the bite that night

also last year around this time we found that at night as soon as the moon came up the crappie bite would slow down or almost stop

just looking for opinions or info on the moon phases

thank you

I ALLWAYS work the moon phases. Best number of catches and biggest fish allways come on the phase for me. Its peak times (from my experience) are exactly 3 days before, on, and 3 days after.
We went out ''on'' one night and caught over 200 crappies at-17 no clouds no wind.

Either one . I work them the same. Sometimes the bite is ''scattered'' more during a full moon with no clouds (very bright) but more consistant if cloudy (-3.full +3) or on a new(-3 new +3).
But there are exceptions to that too. Are you confused now?

Seem to do slightly better on the new moon but 2 or 3 days before and after either are really good. Can catch nice ones in between but there isn't any real consistency to it. Just wish we had some ice to try it.
