Mille Lacs is getting bad, but depending on the wind and weather I may get out a couple more times. The ice is shot on all of the smaller lakes, some will be open water next week. Very few guys are venturing out on the Super Slab (Mille Lacs), but those of us who are, are being rewarded with big numbers of huge perch.

The ice on Cross Bay was good this weekend and some folks are planning to head back there on Easter weekend...I couldn't venture to guess what that means for Athapap, etc. a week later.

The Ice is good on the lakes if you have a snomobile, some slush here and there. The guys are telling me that the Sask River is still good but nobody thinks driving on it with a truck is a good Idea.

I was told last week that the eyes were going crazy down at Wooden Tent, Rall's Island and at the mouth of Kelsey, along the Sask river, But the lakers were still slow at Clearwater. Rocky lake was slow for eyes but the pike were hitting good. The trail into Dolomite was still good as of Sat. but the walleye bite was slow.

My cousin fished at Cormerant lake On sat and sun and caught about 25 Walleyes total, and 5 pike (all small) .

Hope this helps.

Went up to Clearwater yesterday to check it out.  Theres about 2.5 feet of ice, alot less than usual due to the heavy snowfalls.  Theres also 2-4 inches of flood ice, so its quads and snowmobiles only, although quads would be best if that flood ice turns to slush and water.  Trucks are however driving out at the pumphouse a few hundred yards, where its been hard packed from regular use.  Thats where we drove out and fished for the afternoon.  The guys were working getting the area ready for the derby.  We caught afew fish but it was pretty slow.

Heres the only pic of fish we caught.

Master Angler - I've never ice fished off the pumphouse in Clearwater, but I sure have trolled deep spoons through that area in summer.  It's funny - we could go all over the place with no fish, but as soon as we hit that area, we'd get a bite.  Maybe the trout are locating over structure created for the airport water intake.

I'm heading to Ontario for Crappies with Scuba.  Hopefully we can find some safe ice in the LotW area.
Let there be ice.

Snowmobiles??? Man I am glad I am heading out the day before you ;D I was thinking more along the lines of ice picks and life jackets. Be safe where ever any of you people go this weekend. I would much rather read your post on Monday instead of the obituary.

AC, around 14" of ice where we fished....you probably know where that is, and it sounds like you are fishing a similar lake.  Getting onto the ice might be difficult, but if you are bringing plywood I think you could do it.  There was a quad on the lake we were on today...he got on and off the ice about 3 times with no trouble, but on the last trip off the ice he broke through, but he got out. By the way, the fishing was reaaaallly slow!  But Scuba managed a couple and I got my first ice crappie!
Let there be ice.

Thanks for report Ash....I guess snowmobiles will be staying at home. A little harder to get a sled out of water than a quad. I will take my Yukon ice shack and use it as a boat and float over to the ice...then I will have a sleigh after to haul my junk.  ;D   I'm just too smart for my own good  ;D
