Townsend fish skinner and boneless walleye technique
« on: Feb 02, 2019, 11:03 AM »
Might as well complete the trifecta of fish  ;D
Anyone heard of a townsend fish skinner?  I had not until seeing this.  Interesting method.  If you want to skip ahead to it, start at 6:50 in the video index:

I also learned how meticulous this guy is about removing the blood.  Check out the belly meat method.  Anyone ever do that?  Not me.  I'm not that crazy about removing the blood and I don't find walleye fishy. That said, if I was going to store/freeze one...which is rare for me...I would try this.

Cheers!

I rinse the meat well to get rid of the blood and I remove the ribs with a fillet knife. I also remove the pin bones with my fillet knife, but I'm not as fussy about the belly membrane. Townsend fish skinners have been around for many years. I think one ran about $40 a few years ago.
It seems to go from zero to hero all some have to do is lie.

Same here on removing rib bones and the like.  The fish skinner seems like overkill to me but I have to admit that it really did do a great job.  Still seems like a lot of bother and equipment for a simple task.

Cool!  Yeah, I did the same but cut top down which is harder.  So I'll adjust to cutting on its side.  And, Try the final zipper pull.  That looks easy peasy.   Thanks man!  ;D

I like that, sure seems like as little waste as possible.  Probably easier on a fillet knife as well not cutting through the pin bones when you take the ribs out.

Just one more item to try and clean.
And if its not  100 % clean some one is going to get sick .

Just a knife is all a guy needs .
