last week we nice black ice in eastern ct. about 5". we actually watched the fish under the ice. my partner watched a good fish mouthing the bait about 5ft from the hole, when she moved off with it he set the hook on the first pike of the year. watching the fight through the ice was sick. big white belly rolling around.
i finally got a flag about a half an hour later. on the way out i said "been waiting for this for 8 months". pulled back and felt nice weight. my biggest pike, 36". both fish were released easily and swam away nicely. great start to the year, of course a week later i had only 2 flags and 1 12" pick in a mornings fishing.
