Try chaumont hardware on main st. in chaumont.  only 20 minutes from there.  not quite as much selection as T.I., but all the essentials and good prices.

In years past They have also had Jumbo shiners at TI, dont know if they have them yet this year.  This certified bait law has pushed prices up and made it harder to find good large bait.

Yes!  It sux     Jumbo Shiners would be sweet    It's a 2 1/2 -3hr drive for me but if they had 5" + Shiners & Suckers   I just might make the trip out to get bait.   Not many other options nowadays

Chaumont hardware will have suckers 8-10 inches and jumbo certified wild golden shiners up to 7 inches after the 1st of the year.  I know cuz im the owner. I have them on order and will always have them on hand for the duration of the season.  On derby weekends (mid jan - feb), we may run out on saturday so get them on fridays.  suckers will be 2 - 3 bucks each, shiners 15 per doz on the jumbos "shark bait" local caught wild golds.

Up until the past couple of years I spent 10 years fishing a fall pike trip out of Alex Bay with a group of guys. It always seemed like the pike lures were .50 or .75 more than everywhere else. Then the last couple of those years it seemed every bait was $2 or $3 more than everywhere else. It was a huge difference to go from a $2 bait everywhere to paying $5 for that same bait at the TI Bait shop.

The last couple of years I have fished some bass tournaments up there and stopped in to check the shop out. It seems they are more in line with everyone's prices now. Are they a little more expensive, sure, but not as brutal as it used to be. Their problem now is all of us who used to visit year after year and planned on buying our lures as part of the trip, remember them jacking the prices back then. Now, if we go up there we buy our lures before we get there at Bass Pro, Gander, or online.

It's funny, those same lures that worked back then, still work today!
