From W/P there's some very nice ice fishing to be had within an hour or so driving, but not yet. Tarryall, a little past Lake George usually is one of the first to freeze, but I've never heard that it holds particularly big fish. Popular though. Skagway, about six miles past Victor, freezes pretty early. Good place for kids since you can always get decent action on healthy stockers. Antero can freeze up right after those other two and was famous for it's shrimp fed football trout a few years ago. I haven't fished it in several years so I wouldn't know what to expect. I usually hit Eleven Mile which can be a tough lake but gives the opportunity to catch some very nice fish. Look up 11milemarina.com for their fishing report which he updates weekly. I have no ides when these lakes are going to freeze this year. It's November 2nd and I haven't even had a killing frost in the Springs yet. If you decide to take a chance on some dicey ice at least read the post in the chit-chat thread about " bustin' through early ice" for some self rescue techniques. There is probably going to be earlier ice when you get higher in elevation but I don't know those waters.
We're born, we live for a while, and then we die.  Sounds like a good reason to go ice fishing.
