LOADS 'O' GOLD

Pretty epic morning on the jig stick. Found 4" on my bait pond, clear black ice. Was sure I was going to struggle keeping pond shiners around on window pane glass..
Set up the shanty and couldn't buy a bite..finally ventured out into the sunlight, and Bam i sat on a school for a couple hours. Called it a morning when my 3 buckets were filled. 68 golden tickets for pike 😁

What’s your favorite jig/bait to catch them?  I’ve caught some big ones while fishing for perch and sunfish. I plan on keeping some and freezing them as dead bait for lake trout and pike, I just don’t have a bait tank set up.

Hali Sukkula 25s(#10 hooks) tipped with gulp maggot. Color dosnt seem to matter on jig. Dead stick with spring bobbers gives best results

Gulp maggots, interesting. I have a jar of chartreuse ones that I used drifting in streams for trout. I’ll have to give them a try through the ice then.

I have had pretty good luck last couple seasons. re purposed a small freezer. its insulated so temp changes dosnt get to the water as quickly. The biggest issue i had was fish getting infections around the mouth where they were hooked. Melafix took care of that problem..if and when i lose one, it becomes dead bait. win win.
