End of Season?
« on: Feb 13, 2018, 12:52 AM »
Is this the end of the season? Forecast next week in the 40's with rain....Man this sucks. At least trout season is around the corner..

The warm-up is only a couple days from what I saw with a little rain, wintery mix, and freezing temps overnight so in my opinion clearing the snow with some rain and a little warmer weather might be what is needed to tighten things up a little or I will be getting my creek gear warmed up.  Headed north for ice this weekend.

Shouldn't hurt the ice any on the lakes around here, but might cause some issues with river ice.

I agree....this little warm up wont do much.  Rain doesn't touch the ice; its warm strong winds you need to be worried about

Yes any rain will take the loft(fluff) out of the snow but it will make the snow heavier pushing
the ice down a bit bringing more water up thus you have SLUSH.

Skunks are out in southern mi. I think we'll be lucky to still be getting out after next weekend. Fat lady is warming up her vocal cords...

I believe you may be correct sir. I’m in Clare county and the spots I like to fish are spring fed and/or have relatively shallow current. Those spots aren’t going to hold up much longer. I can’t complain though. I’ve done enough ice fishing this year that rivals the amount I’ve had the last 5 seasons combined. I might get out a couple more times but if not, no biggie.

Hitting  the ice tomorrow morning. Lakes here are still iced up for the most part. There were 5 on Stone in Cassopolis this morning. Fore cast for next week doesn't look to promising for ice retention!

I hung it up tonight. Home lake has 1.5" of white snow ice, 6" of water, then base is 2" of honeycomb. Caught a dozen gills that go to my golf partner. Warm up and rain is going to finish the ice around here.

Going one last time (probably  ;D ) Sunday morning. Looks like 2 days of 50* with a lot of rain middle of next week. Could put a hurtin' on the ice for sure.

I don't even want to think about the end of season yet. About 10" of good ice today, but next week looks bad. Anyway, if today was our last day out, I'll go happy. Wife and I went to a lake in Washtenaw County and ended up with 40 or so from 12:30 to 6pm. 2 or 3 gills probably over 9". Funny thing was I was packing up to leave, my wife took the picture, then she started fishing again. I figured wth, unpacked my stuff, and pulled out 10 more in about 20 minutes. The bite was pretty steady all day, but then turned on right at the end. Mousies and spikes both worked. This season has been darn good and I don't want it to end yet!

So did Barry County. First hole I punched I had 'em stacked pretty good. Hooked one right away and thought it was going to be a good morning. That ended up being the only fish I marked for the next 4 hours. No idea where they went and I covered a LOT of territory. 3 other guys out too with same results. What a difference a week makes...limited out last Sunday in about 3 hours.  ???

ugh not looking good for for us in SW/West MI.  I wouldn't be so negative but this is the 3rd warmup/rain on this ice and I don't think it will last to much more...I could be wrong.   Might try one more time tonight after work.  Guys doing well this morning...
