Thanks GameDog, & madm365, Tumbleweed, I would like to say I let her go, but I didn't. It is the first big fish I have kept in quite a few years. I had my reasons, and sometime maybe I can explain. It was a tough decision, because I have let so many nice fish go. It still kinda of bothers me. I will release any big fish I catch from now on.

Wyo_Ice thanks!

Nice fish BI!  Glad to see you have had some success.  Fishing is tough for me so far to say the least.  In fact, hunting honkers has been more of a priority just because the fishing has been so poor.  Hope you find a few more of those, I will let you know if I plan on heading that way!

Title: Re: Walleye Team Wyoming!
Post by: BottomDweller on Jan 09, 2009, 06:27 PM
i haven't heard from anyone, but wouldn't be surprised, as there have been several others dq'ed for taking a pic of the fish while in the shanty...   why that disqualifies you is beyond me, but it is in the rules.    ???

I hope there is a pic that doesn't give away the spot that Big Ice can submit... that is one heck of a nice 'eye.  Either way, a great fish and congrats Big Ice.

Hey everyone I did get DQ. I did take pictures of the fish outside of my house, but no pictures of the fish and tape outside. I would like to thank everyone for the kind words and support. But the rules are the rules. I guess I should have read them. It is a tough way to learn the rules! I don't catch many fish like that one.

BUT THE GOOD NEWS, IS, I WAS OUT TODAY WITH WYOMING_ICE AND WE CAUGHT SOME NICE FISH. i WILL BE ENTERING ANOTHER GOOD FISH SOON :woot:

LT,  I remember seeing a picture of a Crappie you caught on a stringer, that would eat the one I caught. Can you post that pic again? That was a Toad.

Mooter you are the real Legend.

warrior1, I am concerned, I believe we have a problem. There does not seem to be enough of the 13"-21" class eyes. There are many problems that contribute to it. Now I am going by word of mouth here. I heard they stock fry (Walleye/Northerns) in the Lake that are to small, about 1" in size. I think the Crappie eat them up as soon as they stock them. They should be at least fingerling size. maybe a few would survive.
If you were to look back we started having a shortage of Walleyes and Northerns soon after the introduction of the Crappies. Now I like the Crappies, Great panfish, but ever since they introduced them into the Lake it has changed.
Also years ago the fisherman I talked to wanted a slot limit, release every thing under 15" and keep only 3 or 4 fish for 15" to 21" and one over 26". To many small fish were being kept, and now what we have is a large class of fish. Why we don't have more large Northerns I don't know!
I think with larger fry, and returning smaller fish maybe in time it can be restored.

Thanks BottomDweller It sounds like the weather is not cooperating for you guys. Looks like LT might loose his hair. TGF has a pretty nice Laker entry!

Thanks Fishlord, er-e-is and Tumbleweed, TW the eye was about 28"

Wyoming_Ice We did have some cold snowy weather, I think it made for some slow fishing. There is nothing like fresh fish filet's. We all could use some colder weather or it's going to be a short winter on the ice.

Steve, great fish.  Looks like things have been going well for you!  Another round of goose pounding is done for me, going to get the ice gear out again.  Any idea how the warm temps and nasty winds have treated the ice?  ATV is not going on any lakes around here soon, that I know.  Hope you keep on smacking them!

LT, I hope your prediction holds true, because the fish have a serious case of lock jaw now! I think they heard that we are going to have a new President soon :woot:

RR, The honey hole is just a hole now! Traxion, so far the ice is holding it's own, thank God for that cold Month of December we had.

Thanks Guys, It's better to be lucky than good! Last winter I caught a good eye 2 days after the tourney ended. This winter I have had some good fortune early. But what allot of people don't know is I fished 6 days of my last seven off. That's allot of time with your line down the hole. That's not counting the five days I fished before that.

Fishing Report: I fished eight different spots the other day, not only did I not catch a fish. I never graphed a fish. not even a Crappie! :%$#!: I should also add I had a couple good fisherman with me that had the same luck. We drilled a bunch of holes.

Now the good news  I bought two new fly rods, 4 pcs pack rods, tubes and reels/ line. My brain has been in the backpack mind set all winter. If you can believe that. I am looking forward to making a trip or two to the Winds. LT are you ready.

Big Ice,
Glad to read your post about the amount of time it took you to bag that trophy.  it's easy to assume that you just drop your bait down a hole and a monster takes it, much like the fishing shows that catch numerous large fish in 30 minutes!!  Just goes to show you that these fish are truly rare!! and that they are still out there...
Also gives me hope that the countless hours I've spent looking down a small hole in the ice will someday be rewarded ;D
I'm new to this forum but I find it fun and informative.  Keep up the good work.

Hey Steve.  You stopped and talked with me on a point a couple west of Rabbit Ears last year the Friday night before the Keyhole Derby and you work with my dad.  Shoot me an e-mail and maybe we can combine knowledge and track down the eyes for late ice this year.  As tough as it has been, it may take a team effort.

I haven't been out for a few weeks now. I moved my house off because the fishing was so slow. I went skiing and got hooked, great snow at Terry this winter.  Been tying flies. I think the fishing should start pickup some. Good to hear that about the ice. I was hoping to make it out Sat. KH has always been a challenge to winter fish. I will PM you.

Finally made it out this afternoon after a 3 week break, beautiful afternoon. Tried to get hooked up with eve21, I couldn't make Sat. and he couldn't make today. I had only a couple of bites. I did get lucky and caught this fish.
